hi OZ Expat--
If you're considering or planning to have a C-section, Hong Kong is the place to be. Well over 50% of births are by section here, any doctor you go to will have plenty of experience in that area.
The choice of an OB is very personal, but some of the doctors you may want to talk with are: Sally Ferguson, Lucy Lord, Philip Ho...as Sasha said, doctor recommendations are common threads on this site so its worth doing a bit of searching.
If you have good insurance, Matilda is hard to beat in terms of the overall birth experience. I know people who have LEFT Hong Kong but returned to give birth to their second here as the experience with the first was so fabulous. But as Sasha also said, if there are complications, any baby on the island will go straight to neonatal care or the NICU of Queen Mary, the public hospital in Pokfulam.

Health care in Hong Kong is of a very good standard although relatively expensive if you go private. Be sure to get good insurance coverage.
If you would like any details of our hospital please feel free to drop me a line and when you arrive give me a call and we can show you around.

As the others have mentioned. If you have good insurance; go for the Matilda. Also if you want a recommendation of a OB/GYN : Dr A Ghosh

I've just delivered my baby at the Matilda and I've been really impressed by their excellent standards. The nurses are really excellent and everything went so smoothly.
My doctor is Dr Alexander Doo and I can only highly recommend him. He's very professional and also human.

Hi OzExpat. I was in a similar position to you, I moved to Hong Kong (from Australia) when I was 8 weeks pregnant with my second child. When I first arrived, I went to see Dr Robert Dawkins. He is Australian and I was very comfortable with him. Unfortunately, we did not have private health insurance so from about 20 weeks, I switched to the public health system, which was fine. I delivered at the Queen Mary (natural drug-free birth) and it cost me only HK$350. I have heard that the price for a c-section is about the same (could be wrong). The bedside manner at the Queen Mary leaves a lot to be desired, but the level of care is excellent.

Doctors and hospitals tend to be a personal choice. The best obstetrician I have come across is Dr Christine Choy at Care for Women in New World Tower. Tel (852) 3112 0480. She is a wonderful doctor/surgeon - this view is shared by many many people on this site - you can check for recommendations. As for hospitals, the Adventist, Sanatorium and Matilda are popular private hospitals. Private doctors will not deliver in public hospitals like QMH but the public private issue is a debate in itself!
