Hi, we are American expats currently living in Singapore with PR status here as well. We are looking into adopting a baby or a child from China while living in Singapore. Wonder if there are any other Americans in Singapore either have filed China adoption while in Singapore or are currently doing do, just want advice on procedures and what is a good intl placement agency to use that is based in US but would help expat couples in Singapore? As I understand for Americans living overseas, we would still have to go back to an agency in US to initiate applications. But is there a good local Singapore agency that is qualified to conduct home study report for the US agency as well? What is the current waiting period for American expats to adopt from China if anyone knows? Once adoption goes through, do we file with US consulate in Singapore for the child's US immigrant status, and a dependent pass with Singapore govt for him or her to stay with us in Singapore? Thanks for any advice here

How exciting. Adoption is a great way to build a forever family. Having said that, I am an adoptive mother of two children from South Korea, and have several friends that have adopted from China. One thing to take into account is the time line. I don't know how long you will be in Singapore but with Chinese adoptions taking upwards of 5-6 years, you may already be back in the US at the time of referral and travel. IF that is the case, your child would automatically become an US Citizen upon arrival on US soil.
Good Luck and Best Wishes

Have you tried the yahoo groups? There is one called adoptionforamericansabroad - I think you will find some American expats who have adopted while in Singapore & they may be able to give you some contacts or tips even if they haven't adopted from China.
Good Luck.
