while some countries have laws declaring how many embryos/blasts can be transferred, hong kong does not. the number you transfer can be decided between you and your doctor.

if i can offer some unasked for advice: i suggest you talk about # to transfer before your actual transfer date. if you only want a single embryo transfer or you want to transfer three, make sure your doctor knows. you don't want any more stress around transfer time...have it all straightened out and agreed upon before transfer.

good luck.

Many thanks for your reply. Perhaps you can offer some more words of wisdom.

Q. If a 5 do embryo (blastocyst) is already frozen in its' straw; can a 6 do embryo be added the day afterwards?

hi panmart...

i don't know your diagnosis, (or what a do is), but i havent' heard of any cases where a 6d blast is transferred the day following a 5dt. because embryos are transferred to the ends of the fallopian tubes and then they work their way downwards to the uterus in hopes of implantation, i don't think this practise is done.

however, it is shocking how often i am wrong.

good luck.

Hi Panmart, I agree with abitnaive that there are no laws on numbers of embryos transferred, but there are guidelines agreed to by a council on fertility or reproduction (not sure exact name of council) to which reputable doctors, sanitoriums and clinics abide by and which says that no more than 3 embryos will be transferred. It does not specify whether these are day2 or 3 or 5 day blastocysts however and does not provide for different number based on age.

Discuss this with your doctor - I just did my ET and had big discussions/disagreements with my doctor that given my age and previous history, I wanted more than 3 transferred, but he was strict about sticking to the guidelines. It is a consideration for me to do my next IVF in Thailand or another place that is a little more relaxed about the guidelines. If you want more transferred, perhaps you can find a doctor that is willing to "loosely interpret" the guidelines - mine was not.
