I am due to have my baby at the end of the year and will be moving to Clearwater Bay before then. Can anyone suggest which hospital (Public) would be the most suitable to deliver in please?

You're probably looking at United Christian Hospital for delivery.
Here are all the HA hospitals.

I live in Clearwater Bay, and had my last 2 at Prince of Wales in Shatin, the journey is about 20 mins by car, sometimes a bit less. Its a big teaching hospital so has all the special care and icu units incase of emergencys. Tseung Kwan O hospital is a few minutes from Clearwater Bay, have used it a couple of times for A&E but not childbirth. Pamela Youde is nowhere near Clearwater Bay.

I live in Clearwater Bay and am going to Tseung Kwan O for all my check ups. You can't deliver there though, for that you go to United Christian...about 20 mins away. Been very pleased with the hospital so far, friendly staff and all speak godd English.

HI KAL1, I live near Clearwater Bay and I recently had my baby at Prince of Wales in Sha Tin. I really recommend it. The care was exceptional and has left me with nothing but happy memories.

Hi 10 & cd - re Prince of Wales hospital I have a few questions if you don't mind....Do you have your check ups at the hospital or another location? Are the delivery rooms shared or private? Is it standard practice to have your husband with you at the birth (I know some hospitals require the husband to attend some of the talks etc before this is allowed)? Thanks for any answers you may have for me!

Hi KAL1...
I had all of my check ups at the hospital. There was a very long wait each time (usually about 1 1/2 or 2 hours) but I always took a book and actually enjoyed the solitude! There were different doctors each time but they were very thorough and I felt able to ask any questions. As it was my first baby I also went into Central to see a private doctor (3 times altogether). This was just to put my mind at rest and to get the 4D scans.
The antenatal ward was not pleasant (fortunately I was only there for one night) as the beds are closely packed together and I was just a bit overwhelmed at the fact that I was about to have a baby.
The delivery room was private, spotless and felt mega modern to me. There was a curtain across the end of the room and I think maybe some of the rooms were interlinked but I honestly didn't feel exposed at all. The nurses in the delivery room were extremely kind (I was very scared!) and made every effort to make me feel more relaxed and to answer any questions.
My husband was allowed in more or less the whole time (just had to leave the room when the epidural was put in). Noone asked if he had had the antenatal talks. I had made a birth plan that they really tried to respect.
Once the baby had arrived they took photos for us and left us alone in the delivery room for over an hour (I guess they can't do this if it is very very busy though).
They then kept the baby in the nurses' area (with all the other babies) and brought her to me whenever she needed feeding. They just keep the baby with them so that you can get a rest, but you can keep the baby with you if you prefer. After that I was visited regularly by drs and nurses (unfortunately different ones each time) but they were all great and I felt really looked after.
I had been so so so scared about having a baby (having heard everyone else's horror stories) that it was a revelation how great it was.
And then when I was discharged....they gave us a bill for about $300! What a bargain!
Good luck with your baby, feel free to ask anything else you need to know.

I probably can't be of much help as I went as a private patient - total cost $20k each time. But the costs have gone up a lot since then. Also it was pre sars and things are a bit stricter since then. 1st time I gave birth in a private delivery room, but the 2nd it was like a ward with just curtains, but I was the only one in there, and my daughter was delivered after only 20 mins in the room so I didn't really have time to notice what it was like. The midwifes are the same wether you are private or public. I wrote a birth plan both times which was adhered to as much as possible. I usually had to wait about an hour to see the Dr, even though I was private, the advantage being it was the same Dr each time. The wards are pretty basic but the care is fine. Food is crap. Also be aware of some practices e.g epidurals are usual here. I questioned this as although it was my 1st one here, it was actually my 4th child. The Dr said that it was usual to give one to the local women. I wrote no on my birth plan and it was fine. Also they wanted to put a drip in my hand when I arrived in the hospital just in case it was needed later, I also said no as they only take a couple of minutes to put in if neccessary, it wasn;t needed. I'm not planning on number 6, but if an accident happens, I would choose the POW as a public patient again.
My disabled son has used this hospital since we've been here for various things, and various stays and apart from 1 DR, everyone has been very caring.
