Minimum Earnings

Hi

First time posting this. I know it's the best to contact social agencies first but my worry is that my boy friend (we're together for a very long time) is a freelance and do not earn much ($10K-$15K / month?). And he is in debt about $100K. I earn 25K a month. Including my bonus I earn about $360K a year. I don't earn much either... to HK expats standard but at least mine job situation is stable.

What is the minimum wage required for adopting a child in Hong Kong?

Thank you very much.

I think the minimum, for 2 parents + the child, is $18,000.

Good luck.

When we adopted 14 years ago, we had to have been married for 3 years before applying for adoption in HK.

I don't know if that has changed in the last few years but that may be more of a problem than the finance.

Anyway good luck.

Hi both

Thank you very much for your quick reply!

Minimum earning..... Noted. To confirm this for sure I know I need to contact the service agencies but, humm, 18K that's much lower than I thought! Then we are passed on that. :)

Marriage..... Yes, we are planning to get married as we're together for too long just never really had an interest or chance to get wedded. It's better for sure but I heard in Hong Kong single parent can adopt too. For this I also need to check service agencies too but it's good that I can collect information on this web site and start talking to ppl in similar interests.

I recently adopted in HK and believe (following mandatory evening classes that give you all this info) that the JOINT household income needs to be a minimum of 7-9k and that the couple should have been together for 3+ years if they are to adopt. However, before you commit and really want to get your facts straight, I would recommend contacting Hong Kong Social Welfare Department's adoption website, all the info is there for you. Good luck, it is WELL worth the wait.
