bad c-section keloid scar

my c-section scar has formed into quite a large keloid that is very often itchy and tender. i've used every type of silicone scar gel available - for a year. and nothing has worked! i'm not in a position to get it surgically removed as i plan to have more kids and may need more c-sections done. however for the time being, what else can i do to relieve the discomfort??

I have keloid scarring as well, not from a c section (although I am having one of those in July!!). I have found any cream that is really high in Vitamin E and/or sweet almond oil helps with the discomfort. There is also an oil called 'Bio Oil' that I bought in Australia that is also good for relief. You should also look into taking a vitamin supplement to help you heal - anything with zinc and vitamin E seems to help.

I haven't found anything that actually helps the appearance of keloid scarring (apart from time!) but the above have all helped in terms of discomfort and itching.

Good luck.

thanks rachrobin. if you want to avoid getting a keloid after your c-section i would definitely ask your surgeon to inject your wound with steroids. i asked my surgeon to do it but he said he just wanted to wait and see if one would form and by then it was too late!

but doesn't steroids have bad side effects. what about breast feeding your child after having steroids injected in your system? isnt that risky?

Have you had the steriod treatment on other scars? I had a mole removed from my breast about 18 months ago and had 4 shots of steriods over a period of time to help - it did nothing...

well i don't think it would affects breast milk otherwise it wouldn't be practised so widely. my sister asked for it after her second c-section and said it improved the scar by 50% (compared to her first un-treated c-section). i don't really know how much it really works but i will try anything to minimise it!
