Most participants in our class were 7 months.

We loved our class at Annerley www.amidwife.com

also went to aNnerly. Had to do private lessons as their teaching schedule was so not in tune with my husband's work schedule. Private, was nice, although we weren't able to meet other pregnant couples. I felt more free in the private as my husband had a lot of "unique" questions to ask, and a lot of stuff was basic for me given my father is an OB. We had a few classes at their offices and then Hulda came home for one lesson after the baby was born. Very nice.

Also, go for the 'home visit' package from Annerley, no matter which classes you go to. Then a midwife will visit you at home 6 times after you get home from hospital - a total godsend when you are home and don't know what you are doing! I am doing this again for my second, as I am sure we will have questions, issues and want baby to get weighed and measured.

Hi cri, HKCC, Joshmomm, I will go for Annerley , group prenatal classes, cos we might be able to make friends with some (new)parents there. And will also join the home visit package. Think we will start the class at 7mth preg as suggested. Tks for your opinions. Cheers!

Does anyone know anything about what the Queen Mary Hospital offers in terms of prenatal classes? That's where I'm meant to give birth (though I still haven't been referred by my private gynae, at 7 months now...)

Also, I have the following dilemma: I've heard of many mothers saying that prenatal classes are no real use at all, because you tend to forget what you were taught immediately when you actually deliver. Does anyone know of women who didn't do the classes and did just well anyway (apart from centuries of generations of mums)?

And my last question: beside learning how to breath, what else do they teach in their prenatal classes?

Thanks.

Prenatal classes are no longer about 'how to breath'

You can see the topics covered here:

http://www.amidwife.com/2005web/AntenatalClasses.htm

Everything from showing your partner how to massage your lower back (starting now!) to the effects of different drugs/medications that might be given at the hospital, to breast feeding, to changing a nappy. In addition, you get one private session that is just for you and your partner.

You can ask other places (Matilda and Adventist) for their list of course topics as well as they may vary slightly.

After checking the Group Antenatal classes on Annerley Midwifes website, there are many interesting topics but not a lot about breathing and relaxation. I really want to learn how to breathe and relax, does anyone can give comments on the Classes you have taken at Annerley.

Does anyone know about English classes to breathe in any hospitals (Especially in the New Territories)?

Thanks a lot...

I thought it was covered, but not in the traditional 'lamaze' sense. Annerley also teaches hypno birth - which you can ask them about.

If you are in the New Territories and would like breathing and relaxation coaching to birth with please pm me and we can have a chat.

I advocate the Bradley method and have coached many women in deep relaxation.
