hi, i'm due in mid-june but the hospital hasn't given me the exact date as they messed up my due date while registering. since most of my friends are single and non-pregnant, would be nice to share experiences with pregnant ladies.
many mums (including my sisters who are mums)have told me to enjoy the pregnancy but i am not enjoying it at the mo esp. due to so many restrictions. the festive season was not so festive for me! i dont get annoyed easily but these days, it's hard to keep my annoyance within the boundary. maybe i'm prenatally depressed..? maybe i'll feel better after feeling the bump move..?
dont get me wrong, i absolutely love babies and am godmother to my nieces but all i want is to get over this pregnancy fast! being an impatient person throughout my life doesn't help either. did anyone go through the same experience or is it only me? *yikes*
would love to get some tips on how to stay positive for the sake of my baby.
cheers!

Kissy.missy,
I am in my 34 week. I have really enjoyed being pregnant - most of the time I just have concerns (becos it has been a tough TTC road). It is difficult to be good - but then again - it is only for 40 weeks of your life (for each child). It is probably easier for me becos I dont drink anyway. The toughest part for me is to drink milk and stay away from smoked salmon. However, I have managed to drink at at least one cup of milk everyday and stayed away from smoked salmon.
Once the kicking starts (at about 17/18 week) you will be so excited, you will forget about your blues.
Hope this has helped! Good luck and do cheer up - it is so difficult for some of us to get pregnant - you are very lucky to be where you are! Enjoy!

kissy.missy - are you still in your first trimester? this is my second pregnancy and i have found that i felt 200% better in the second trimester as there are some happy hormones that are floating around in your body that really kick it up a notch in the second trimester!
also, i know it's difficult when all your friends are single and not pregnant. i went through that last time with all my work colleagues. i started doing pre-natal yoga three times a week and found great solace in being in a room with lots of other pregnant women! you don't feel so alienated. this time around it is much different as i have since made more mummy friends after having my first baby...
i also agree that you will get a thrill when you feel your baby move so you can look forward to that! also i am not saying to do this at all, but alot of second time round mums are more lax with "restrictions". ie i will have a glass of two of wine when i go out for dinner which is really only once or twice a month and i've been eating alot of no-nos like deli meats, smoked salmon, soft cheeses, rare beef and even sushi!!! i am absolutely NOT saying you should go out and do these things but i'm just saying that i do and it's making this pregnancy alot easier than the last! it's your own choice and everyone is different.
good luck and i am sure things will look up soon! hanging out with other pregnant women (or mums) helps. :)

thanks and congrats to both of you, havefaith and sashimi girl.
my bump is only showing a little bit but not that much and when i look at it, i wonder when i'll start adoring the little bub growing inside. i'm on my 16/17 weeks now. guess i'll feel more maternal once the bump is a bit bigger and starts kicking me to make me feel his/her presence. :)
regarding food and drinks, i have been good on avoiding alcohol and seafood etc but sometimes it is hard but havefaith is right, it is just for 40 weeks so i should be ok with it. the only time i feel guilty is when eating spicy food. i need to have spicy food like everyday (even before i was preggie) but i read that if i'm used to eating spicy food then it wouldn't affect little bub. hmmmm. hope that's true!
i'll take sashimi girl's advice and join prenatal yoga classes. would be good to chat to other pregnant ladies. :)

Kissy.missy,
This is my 2nd pregnancy and I'm due in Aug. I remember my last pregnancy was truly an enjoyable experience. But what annoyed me most was the 1st trimester having to cope with the morning sickness and fatigueness. It lasted for the whole of the my 1st trimester. Here we don't prefer to tell others that we are pregnant until 3 months or so. So it's really annoying as you don't have the energy and mood to go out with friends but you can't tell them why yet.
However once you enter 2nd trimester, you'll suddenly gain back your energy and appetite (of course some ppl feel like vomitting till 7 months or so and that's unfortunate). You feel like yourself again with the booming bump. You can proudly announce the good news to your friends and you start to feel the bub kicking inside. These are all amazing experiences which will make you forget all about the 1st trimester.
Not to mention the bundle of joy that you will meet after the 40 weeks. It worths all the waiting and restrictions :)
So now in week 7 I am starting to go through the worst part of the whole pregnancy again. I can't see light at the end of the tunnel quite yet. But I'll bear in mind the better part is coming up soon.
As for spicy food. Actually I still crave for spicy food occasionally, and I'll still eat it haha. I don't think it'll affect the bub. Just eat whatever you like as long as it's healthy! Good luck to you!

kissy.missy,
I had huge cravings for spicy food the first 10 weeks - I was told it is OK. However, I had water retention problems esp with salty food - there tends to be quite a bit of salt in spicy food - so just watch out for that. I ate it in small amounts - otherwise my feet wont swell to a point where my shoes wont fit.
Take care,
HF
