My IUI at Shanghai Ji ai hospital - Feb 2009

Hello to you all. My husband and I have moved to Shanghai about a year ago. I would like to share with those who are in Shanghai and looking to have IUI or IVF done. I would highly recommend Ji Ai hospital. True it's very chinese and you'll be a bit overwhelmed by the crowd at first. But if you follow their procedures everything will turn out just fine. I don't speak chinese but I went there and found my way through. All the doctors speak English however the nurses don't but with a bit of effort, things get done. If you can take a chinese friend along with you it'll be very useful. Otherwise, like me, I just befriended with the ladies in the waiting room. And they'll help you through.

On Feb. 12, 2009 I got to see Dr. Chen Hua who speaks english perfectly and so the whole consultation was done in English. She got me on Clomid from CD4 to CD8 and FSH injectables CD5, CD7, CD9. On CD10, I had my ultrasound which showed 4 big follicles , 19mm, 18mm and two 15mm. I was given the HCG shot that day and was asked to come in for IUI the next morning (CD11).

The IUI was performed the following day (Feb 20). All went really well. Dr. told me to come back the next day for an ultra sound to see if the follicle has ruptured, if so the 2nd IUI will be performed. And so I went in the next day and had my 2nd IUI!

And now the 2WW begins!

I would like to simply say that don't let the fact that Ji Ai is "VERY CHINESE" scare you away (esp us "expats). They specialise in this area and everything is straight forward, no non-sense with a very high level of efficiency. Plus, the cost is very cheap compared to other private blood sucking hospitals.

Last year I had my treatment at Parkway Health which ended in pear shape and costed an equivalent to 4,000 Euros with no IUI performed! It was a really crapy experience and I swear not to set my foot there again! The blood work at Ji Ai costs 500 Yuan while the same costed me 2,000 Yuan at Parkway! Eventhough I have a full insurance coverage it still makes me wince.

I'd be happy to go into details with my experience when anyone. Just let me know.

Baby dust to you all and i'll keep you posted of my result in two weeks!

first - i wish you all the luck and keep my fingers crossed for you in the coming 2 weeks.

thank you for sharing your experience. i also have just moved to shanghai with my hubby and 5 year old son. we are thinking of having our second child and have seen doctors in HK before (IUI was one of the options given to us), and it is good to know that there are reliable hospitals/doctors who can do it here in shanghai as well. HK costs are very much similar to Parkway so when one decides to go this route, you have to be not just emotionally prepared but financially as well. Keep us posted and I will certainly get in touch with you should I decide to take TTC this level :-)

Well ladies my 2ww is over!! Boy was it long!!!! Yesterday (Friday) was exactly 14 dpiui but my AF isn't dued til next Tuesday. I wanted to wait to make sure my AF wouldn't really show but at the end I caved in and took the test. And I got BFP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I took another one again after 2 hours , also BFP!!!!!!!! The lines were faint but there was definitely a line. I made my little sis in law ( a 20 year old ) who's visiting take the test (since she's definitely not prego) just to see the difference! :-P

This morning is 15 dpiui, first urine and YEP! BFP AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!! The line came up right away and got darker today. I'm still in total shock and can't believe this is real. I didn't think my IUI would work the first try.

I'll go in for beta next week and will probably continue taking the test til then!

Baby dust to you all and I'll try to bring myself back to the ground now!! ;-)

Hi Penthai,

Congratulations !! it is your first IUI? woo, that's amazing, may i know how old are you? and did you do anything special, and how long best rest you had after the 2nd IUI?

Can you explain why 2 IUI is required? my Dr said only one time is okay after 36 hours.

I tried 3 IVF failed, and 2 IUI failed. But my IUI was natural without any med or injection. I will need to try with injectables next time.

Thanks,

Happy for you,

lolo

Hi Lolo!

Thank you for your msg! I am 34. I didn't do anything special at all. My husband and i have been trying for the last 4 years. Everything checked out perfectly on both sides. There's nothing physically wrong with us. Unexplained infertility they called it. My husband travels a lot and I have an inverted uterus (don't know if that has anything to do with anything).

So I thought we'll give IUI a go before moving on to IVF. In my mind it would be too good to be true for IUI to work the first time. I guess that's why my attitude was really casual about everything. I went into it thinking, if it works GREAT, if it doesn't oh well, we'll keep trying.....

As for bed rest, I remember getting some pretty bad cramps after 1st IUI. So I just stayed on the couch and watched TV when I got home. But I did leave the house later in the afternoon to go shopping! :-D The next day for 2nd IUI I didn't hurt at all and I was very active that day since we had house guests so I was doing sight seeing pretty much a few hours after. :-P

Why 2 IUIs ? My doctor said they usually do one before the ovulation and one after ovulation. She hasn't really explained the reason. But I read on the forums that 2 back to back IUI in one cycle increases the chance. I'm so sorry to hear about the failed IVFs and IUIs. Keep the faith and I'm sendning you baby dust and sticky glue!

Hi Penthai,

Thank you so much for your detailed information. That's helpful. Yes, i know inverted uterus is very common and it could be the help of IUI as it brings to the right and closer position. Just my thinking only.

Enjoy your pregnancy :)
