maternity 'birthing' packs

ORIGINAL POST

Hi,

Last time I was pregnant (4 years ago), I was told by Tsan Yuk hospital to buy a maternity pack that contained maternity pads and other things I would need for the 'big day'.

Not sure where to buy one this time around.

Any ideas where to get, or at least pads that attach to a belt, rather than with adhesive strips. QMH seem to prefer these.

Ta.

Firstyly congratulations and good luck!

It's been 2 years since I gave birth but I had to have the same items you mentioned above for the QM and from other posts I don't think it has changed much since then. I got my "essentials" maternity pack from a little shop just around the corner from the TsanYuk. You have to climb a hill up from the tram road before turning left to the Tsan Yuk, on that hill about half way up is one with baby items for sale including the maternity packs.

Don't forget your "luxuries" if you are in the public hospital route - food that's edible, flip fops for in the shower, ear plugs / eye patch to get some sleep before the baby comes etc!

Hi Sarah,

Yes, that's right- I will look it up again to see if the shop is still there. The pack was useful in making me feel like I had what I needed, even though I didn't use a lot of it!

Have already packed the earplugs and organised 'shipments' of food to come in... I have heard gossip that a Starbucks has made its way into QMH. Oh joy.

Anyway, thanks for reminding me.

Hi Sam

I had my boys at the Queen Mary and you are right - they prefer those tie on pads for some reason. I took the adhesive ones and then they sent my husband to the little shop downstairs (bottom floor as you come in) to buy the ones they prefer. I'm sure that little shop (opposite the 7/11) will still have what you're after. I am pregnant with no.3 and so will be making my way there again in May. Thankfully I can confirm that there IS a starbucks there now!

Good luck. I hope your experience there is a good one.

Thanks a lot Tung Chung - My experience last time was great- staff were amazing and really looked after my little who wasn't too well after birth. This time it is all planned for Friday so I am hoping nothing disasterous happens before then!

Found the little shop and bought up big. From the visiting hours I see that children aren't allowed- is this a real rule?.... If so I guess I won't be seeing my little one until I am up and about!

God luck for Friday Sam.

The rule on the kids is quite strict, the only way you can see your LO is if you leave the ward into the outside waiting area...but you won't be able to bring you're newbie with you... unless you want to set off alarms from the ankle tags. Hopefully you'll only be in for a couple of days a friend had scheduled C-sec last September and was in and out within 48hours.

Hi Sam, I'll be thinking of you on Friday! Yes, as Sarah says, they were strict with the visiting rules for children. I didn't see my little boy for the 3 days I was in hospital. Thankfully Granny was visiting which distracted him somewhat and also my husband took a little videa of the baby and myself in the hospital and then took it home for my eldest son to watch (he was only 21 months) so he could see his baby brother and also me. He absoluetly LOVED that and watched the video over and over. He was absolutely fine with not seeing me for three days ;-( even though that was the first time we'd ever been apart for more than a couple of hours. WE also sent back the odd gift from the baby and that also seemed to help.

Hi,

I had a feeling that was the case last time when I saw all the mums outside in the waiting room!

Have bought a present for Erin (my 4 year old) and love the idea of taking a video of me and bub for her.

Hoping for a very short stay...

Sam
