I'm expecting my 2nd baby and this time round I would like to have a Pui Yuet but dont know where to look and for a good one. How much would it cost and does the Pui Yuet help with breastfeeding in addition to cooking meals and looking after the baby?
Thanks for any advice!

Hi flowers-daffodil,
Congrats to your 2nd baby! The key role of a Pui Yuet is to take care of the diet of the mom (she does all the cooking and helps prepare the ginger vinegar) and look after the baby. Do you speak Cantonese? If you don't then you will have difficulty communicating with her.
This is where I found my pui yuet, if you read Chinese: http://www.labouraid.org/maternity/main.htm
I used one pui yet for my first baby, and am using her again for my coming baby (am due in 8 weeks). Let me know if you need more info!

Hi Nicher, congratulations. Would you be able to send me more details, ie how do they charge and what is the min number of hours per day.
Thanks

Hello Longing,
As far as I know, this is one of the social service units under the Methodist Church in HK. They provide training to these pui yuet and their rates are standard. The monthly charge all depends on how many hours you need her per day, and how many days per week (Mon-Fri/ Mon-Sat). They charge extra if you need them to work on Sundays. According to their rate card, min working hours per day is 6 hrs, Mon - Fri. So it goes like this:
Mon - Fri
6 hrs $6760
7 hrs $7380
8 hrs $8010
Mon - Sat
6 hrs $7900
7 hrs $8630
8hrs $9310
Cost for transportation and cooking ingredients are not included.
With my first, I submitted my online request for a pui yuet when I was 3 months pregnant. After they received my request, they called me and said they would arrange a pui yuet to have a face interview with me 3 months before my due date (they will try to assign one who lives closer to your home so as to minimize the transportation cost). So I had an interview with her, found her ok, and then signed a contract with her right on the spot.
This time with my 2nd baby, I wanted to hire her again, but I have to pay an extra $1000 for making specific request for a certain pui yuet.
Hope that helps!

Oh I forgot to say, during the face interview, if you don't like the pui yuet they assigned for you, you may request for a change. They will then assign another one to interview with you.
And once the pui yuet starts working, there is a 7-day trial period. You can terminate her/ request for another one with the organization if you are not happy with her. I think it's a good thing about hiring a pui yuet through this organization instead of hiring a freelance one which you have no guarantee for her work quality.

Thanks Nicher for all the information. I'm also due in 8 weekss so I think I better get a move on with finding someone to help. I've been in search for a freelance for a couple of months now but to no avail.
All the best with the rest of your pregnancy.
Longing
