Hi Joyce_f,
Pls let me know about your 3rd IVF!

I started taking DHEA after my first failed IVF (actually my ET was canceled because the quality of the fertilized eggs was too poor. I had 9 eggs retrieved, three fertilized, but none was any good according to the doctor). Then I took DHEA right after that, and the next cycle I got much better quality eggs. (3 retrieved, two fertilized and they were rated second from the top.) I am in two weeks wait now. My beta is on the 27th...

DHEA Looks like an easy and cheap way to improve quality and numbers; promising!
Don't forget to take lots of Q10 (2 x 200mg / day)!!!
I am wishing and hoping for you! Fingers crossed!

I stopped taking DHEA and Q10 after ET. Do you take them during your 2ww, EmSu???

hi mm,
may i know what is DHEA? i didnt know if there is any issue with my FSH? I dont have this info from the clinic. I asked them why I didnt get successful. They just told me it seems to be a matter of luck. They dont see anything wrong with me at this stage. I m not sure if they really have time to study individual case. Seems the doctor is rushing in and out of the clininc, not even have time to go to toilet.
relax and enjoy the christmas, look forward to hear good news from you :)

lolo,
DHEA is a supplement. It is a source of hormone necessary for fertility and is reported (not proved) that it may improve the quality of eggs. You can google DHEA and find some reports. FSH level is considered good if it is under 9. So if your doctor didn't mention anything about FSH, it must have been in the OK range. You are an "unexplained" case and so am I. It is frustrating not knowing what is wrong but I take it as a positive sign...it is just by luck and we will get there someday....hang in there!

hi mm,
Q10 you should take anyway because it benefits our ageing process! Best in combination with Vit. E and C!
DHEA improves certain glands so your hormone system "upgrades." As I analysed it, it is quite useful to improve egg quality and after ET you can stop, only to start again in case of failed implant.
I entered a surrogacy program in India. After 4 IVFs with top grade embryos and up to 4 embys transferred, I can not trust my uterus / system!
I have done immuno testing and several things don't work great.
FYI:
For immuno details I refer to the Alan E Beer clinic in the USA:
http://repro-med.net/info/cat1-5.php
For DHEA I refer to:
http://www.centerforhumanreprod.com/pdf/breakthrough_1004.pdf
and
http://www.centerforhumanreprod.com/pdf/dheafs.pdf
lolo: always ask for a copy of the D3 hormone levels when tested by the doc! If you go to another, you can bring "your body details!"

Hi, EmSu,
I have tried DHEA for 4 months and then got pregnant by IVF. Unfortunately it was an ectopic pregnancy. That pregnancy was very strong and difficult to terminate with medication. After taking the DHEA, my egg number and quality definitely improved from 3-4 embryos to 6-9 embryos in each IVF cycle.
I used to take 75 mg DHEA per day. But now I reduce it to 25 mg per day because it can still maintain the DHEA level of around 400.
I am thinking about testing my full immune problem with the Alan Beer clinic. What was your experience with that clinic?
I also looked into the surrogacy program in the U.S. I do not know much about the program in India. Is it safe to do it in India?

Hi MM,
thanks for the info, sorry I missed to change this thread, as sometimes, i forgot which one i replied once the thread is going down the page.
I will go back and get those record for a copy and check my FSH level, it might be 9, as it seems i go through some numbers on the pink form, one is 9, one is 1. So i guess it is 9. I will get those copies from clinic for my reference and future use.
Thank you so much. I will check what is DHEA. Will it be something similar to what the clinic is given to you by injection during the cycle?
Take more rest,
lolo

Hi LOLO,
Here is the website I found on Day 3 FSH level. YOu can compare with your level and see how it is. My doctor says Day1 to Day3 is almost the same, so if your test was done on Day 1 or 2, then you still can compare with the numbers on the website with some room for deviation.

Please don't worry about not responding to some of the comments I make, lolo. I know you are busy and we all know that we have lots on our plate, so don't add more stress from being on the forum. I know you are very polite and care about people, so if I don't see any responce, I will just think you are busy!!!
DHEA is not the same with the injectibles or tablets you get from fertility doctors. DHEA is something that makes those hoemones and not hormones per-se, thus do not interfer with hormon treatment you get from doctor. It just helps natural process of making hormones by your body. If you have enough of particular hormone, then DHEA will not make excess hormone. But if your body is not making enough of particular hormone, then it will help make it more. THat is why this supplement is differnt from other supplements or horomones. I don't think Dr. HO said anything about this, but you may want to ask him. SOme doctors in Japan recommend this along with their fertility treatment. It seems to be very popular in the States as well.

Where can you get it from in HKG?
Do you need a prescription?
What are the side effects?

Hi all,
I have recently read a book on Dr Alan Beer's Immunotherapy. Information was totally enlightening as a lot of women do have underlying immunity issues that are left undiagnosed. And then their obs/gyn would just ask them to keep trying, and that alone has lead to recurrent miscarriages, i.e. unnecessary heartache and shattered dreams. I asked my doctor for a referral for a specialist who practises Dr Beer's immunotherapy in HK, but he was not aware of any. If anyone knows anything on the topic, please share it here.
Another useful organisation I have recently come across recently is FORESIGHT - a non-profit making organisation based in the UK that helps people with fertility challenges. They have a special fertility programme & its success rate was amazing. To start with, they invite people to undergo a hair analysis followed by vitamins and supplements based on the result finding. They also suggest organic food and avoidance of metal contaminated substances such as shampoo and cooking utensils (and a whole lot more!). The information is amazing and great for the production of healthy children that are less prone to allergies, hyperactiveness and immune problems later in their lives. Their webite: http://www.foresight-preconception.org.uk. They accept overseas membership and all you need to do is provide your credit card details.
Re DHEA - I am so tempted to try, but the Google search led to a couple of body building sites??!! It is available on www.puritan.com

Hi, sorry for the delayed replies:
I first ordered DHEA at http://www.dhea.com/ ; only took a few days from the US. They take the pills out of the bottle and ship in a plastic sealed bag; reason is that DHEA is considered as hormones and therefore not allowed to import!
I also found this one in the UK: https://www.agestop.net/Agestop/product_detail.aspx?PID=1733&CID=86
My latest order was at : http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/hp/d200.html ; mainly because of the price and the 200mg per tab!
I have no negative side effects; maybe an increased sex drive! Taking 100mg daily.
It should be perfectly safe since it is used in US IVF clinics! as I wrote before:

Good luck all!

Hi, EmSu,
I was taking DHEA for 4 months and got good number and quality embryos. I then got pregnant through IVF. But unfortunately it was an ectopic. I then realized that I have hair loss.
It is better that before you start taking DHEA, get a blood test for DHEA-S and testosterone levels. They want the level of DHEA goes up to around 400. That is my best IVF cycle when my DHEA-S level was around 400. Also, do not let the testosterone level goes too high. That may cause hair loss.
100 mg is definitely too high. I was taking only 75 mg per day before. I check the DHEA-S and testosterone levels every month to monitor the increase. After my ectopic pregnancy, I restart taking 75 mg again. My body seems to absorb the DHEA much better this time. It causes my DHEA-S and testosterone to a very high level, then I cut it back to 50 mg, they were still high. This month, I reduced it to 25 mg.
For any one who takes the DHEA, you need to monitor the DHEA-S and testosterone.

For those that are interested, I saw DHEA in Mannings (Princes Building) at the GNC counter in Hong Kong.

Frisbe, do fertility doctors give DHEA test?
Please support our advertisers:
You can ask your doctor to prescribe the DHEA-S and testosterone level tests. Most lab can do that. It is important to check the level. As women get older, the DHEA-S level will decrease naturally. Also, when you take DHEA, it is better to take the 25 mg and take it at different time if you take 2 to 3 pills a day.

Hi Frisbe,
The Alan E Beer Centre will come up with some interesting results! You just subscribe and you'll get some initial questions from, probably, Dana.
The'll ask you to do a full set of immuno tests and an endometrium (the gyn needs to do that).
The bloodtests can be done by PathLab in HK (Mondays or Tuesdays the latest) and they'll send it by overnight express to Chicago. After a discussion with Dr. Stricker, you 'll get all kinds of prescriptions. Most expensive of all is IVIG. Almost unaffordable! Can go from 10 to 40k USD!!!
I did all tests possible and turned out to be a lot wrong with my immune system.
However, I am now 42 and can not wait for any positive result. After 5 failed IVFs, all with top grade embies, we finally made up our minds and entered a surrogacy program with www.surrogacyindia.com. It took us one year in between IVFs to decide... It is not easy!... We selected a nice young Indian woman, 26 with 2 own children.
Now we go to India next week! Any Qs, let me know!

I took DHEA for about a week, but had a pretty bad reaction to it. My skin broke out horribly. I have never had so many pimples on my face.
Has anybody else got a similar reaction?

Hi,
I've DHEA from GNC 25mgx2 every day since mid Jan and do not have any side effect at all at least I'm not aware of. My FSH has improved slightly from 13.5 to 12.7 after one cycle.

Dear EmSu,
Thank you very much for responding to my previous questions. I only found out your reply now since I have not checked on this board for sometime. How is your surrogacy going in India? I do hope that everything goes well. How is your egg quality after taking the DHEA?
Did you test out high in NK cells since you mentioned the IVIG treatment? I contacted Alan Beer's Center and got an order of many blood test. You mentioned that I can go to PathLab in Hong Kong. Dr. Stricker asked me to do some blood tests locally. Does PathLab handle those tests??
Do you mind communicating with me through e-mail since you are having similar problems like me? I think I can have better contacts with you through e-mail. My e-mail address is: frisbecat@yahoo.com
If it is not convenient for you, I will just keep checking on this board.
