Working remotely from HK for a US employer - how do people handle it?

I moved to Hong Kong this year and my US employer wants me to keep working remotely from here full time. For anyone who has done this - did your company put you on a local contract, or did you sort your own right to stay first? Also curious how people handle the tax side when your paycheck is still in US dollars. Any pointers appreciated.

Quick update - my company won't move me onto a local contract, so I'm looking at sorting the immigration side myself. While digging into self-petition options I came across this: https://www.o1eb1.com/en/eb1/eb-2-niw - it breaks down the EB-2 NIW criteria and how filing without an employer sponsor works. For anyone who's filed an NIW from outside the US: did you start before or after committing to living abroad long-term?
