I will be moving to Hong Kong in a couple of months and was wondering if anyone knows any good internet sites to locate open-minded or gay flatmates/share accomm. in Hong Kong. Might be a silly question, but it's worth a shot!
I would also be interested if anyone has any advice on where to live etc. I am not looking for a "scene" as such, but it would be nice to get some idea about gay life-style in Hong Kong.
I am single male (30's), professional, will be working full time.

Gay scene in HK is still relatively underground; homosexuality was illegal here a number of years ago. But it is growing, and sometimes competitive. A friend had a very successful gay bar & lounge but a competitor made sure it had regular police raids. Nothing came of them but it disrupted business too much so he closed it down.

I disagree with Claire. The gay scene is not underground and it hasn't been illegal since the early 1990's. I wouldn't look for a "gay" place to live, James, they don't exist. Just find yourself a nice place then go out and meet people. When you get here you'll be in a better position to suss places out with the help of magazines like HK Magazine and BC. There's a thriving theatre community if that interests you and the majority of men are gay, from all professions and of all ages/nationalities.

Thanks to all for info. I have lived in Bangkok and now Shanghai and just like Sydney or any Western city, there are definitely places where gay people tend to live - (usually around the bars and clubs!). HK seems to be easier to get around than Shanghai or Bangkok though, so perhaps it's not so important. I shouldn't have to rush into anything though, so as you say, I'll take my time when I get there.

If you are a newcomer to HK and want to explore a bit local gay life, I'd recommend Midlevels or Sheung Wan area to meet some people and get settled. Most of the gay venues are in the Sheung Wan area. Flats over there are still affordable and the area has quite a cozy feel.
