Any financial folks out there who can tell me how to open a HKD account using Rand? My son lives in SA, and wants to open a HKD bank account to shelter his money for legal purposes. However, SA has some strict rules about taking Rand out of the country, or sending currency abroad. But there must be some legal way he can send the equivalent of 100K Rand to HK (exchange it beforehand, open an account in a bank that does business jointly, then change banks here in HK, etc).

It is easy if he just comes to Hong Kong to open an account, there is no restriction, all he needs is a passport ID and the money, I would suggest either a HSBC, HANG SENG or BOC account, as one can trade in currencies, metals stocks online.
