The Goods & The Bads

Hi,

First of all, happy new year everyone.

I'm moving to HK for 4-6 months starting in Feb for work in Central, and currently looking for a one-bedroom serviced apartment. My budget is around 15k HKD per month.

I've already checked out the links on xpat.com, but it's hard to pick from the websites (... don't wanna end up at the worst place with the best website!). As such, I'm looking for any comments on the following from anyone who's dealt with or heard of the following places. Of course, any other property suggestion is always welcome!

i) 338 Apartments in Sheung Wan

ii) Bauhinia Apartments in Central

iii) Circle, De Fenwick, Eaton House in Wanchai

iv) De Victoria in Causeway Bay

Thank you very much!

Thank guidam for your input.

338 does have the best looking website too. So far, my favoriates, based on location & interior, have been 338 and De Fenwick. Since all of these locations are close enough to Central ("walkable" or within 2 MTR stations), I'm indifferent when it comes to work commute time. But from what I've heard, Wanchai & Causeway Bay (of course) have a much wider selection for food and shopping (not much of a cook myself so I don't think I'll be cooking at all) relative to Sheung Wan...

Thank you "honey" for the detailed analysis. My first choice was 338, but unfortunately, I've just learned that they are out of the 15k range rooms for the period that I'm interested in. Looks like I'll be going for Bauhinia. As an alternative, I've checked out the Ramada HK hotel suggested by "guidam". It looks pretty good (much better than the Ramada brand in North America). Of course, a hotel is less personal.

"honey", you mentioned in your last paragraph that I may be able to find fairly decent ones in the happy valley or mid-level areas for 15k, do you know of any names or links? I've checked the ads in these areas on the asiaxpat page, but they are all pretty pricy (20k +).

Thank you once again for your help.

Hiya. By coincidence, I'm staying at De Fenwick right now, having arrived just a few days ago.

I don't have any points of comparison, but I'm quite happy with it. The room is big enough, facilities are adequate, it's clean and secure. Biggest plus for me is having cable internet in my room (but this may be standard?).

With the windows open the street noise is definitely loud and you have to seal yourself in, but there's aircon of course so it's ok. The ladies of negotiable affection basically hang out along Lockhart St and that strip (no pun intended) can easily be avoided if you wish; otherwise just ignore them and they generally get the message.

Cheers.

By the way, I also work in Central - it takes me 20 mins door to door.

Thank you very much "honey" for the information. I think I've covered most of the lower end range (15k) ones near Wanchi, Central, & Sheung Wan. THe problem I have is that most places are already full for their lower end range apartments (or at least that's what I've been told, not sure if this is one of the ways they make you pay more). I'm hoping there is still space at the Ramada so that I can stay there for the first month and continue my search.

But thanks for everyone's help!
