Hiring a painter - legal aggreement needed?

We are hiring a painter and decorator to paint our flat and I was wondering what the standard practice is in regards contracts/agreements etc?

Do we need to draw up an agreement or is there a standard one we can use and amend to suit our situation?

I would be really grateful for any advice!

yes, just a written quotation is fine. But painting can be simple ( just re-paint on the existing surface) and more complicated ( first remove the existing paint, re-do the wall surface and paint 2-3 layers ). Ask the contractor to write down all procedures.

as a start...... write down exactly what is to be done and the price....AND importantly WHEN the work is to start and finish and what each party is going to do (e.g. who supplies the paint)....if you go to a law firm...HK$2,500 should cover the costs..

I can recommend a very good contractor if you haven't got one yet. Send me a pm if you want the details.
