Could anyone please let me know which ESF Schools children travelling from Tung Chung would attend. Ditto Discovery Bay.
Would school buses collect children from Tung Chung?
Many thanks

DB ESF students will be going to Bradbury School and West Island School and Island School. I know school buses pick them up from the ferry pier in Central in the morning. Tung Chung ESF students will be attending Kowloon Junior School and King George V for secondary school. The catchment areas have just been changed for the start of the next term.

DB primary kids go to Kennedy, at least the ones I know do. And West Island not south Island. And for secondary from Tung Chung, probably KGV,and Beacon Hill for primary. Whichever one you're looking at theres quite a lot of travelling for the kids.

ESF schools for TC residents have basically 2 choices:
1. DBPIS (Discovery Bay Private Independent School). This was previously ESF Bauhinia. for school year 07-08, they will still be based in the Bauhinia location. By 08-09 they will be transferring to the new school ground in DB. School fee is HKD6,700 per month (not under ESF subsidy). School bus is provided from TC at HKD1,150. travel time is 30 to 35 minutes.
2. ESF Kowloon Junior School (KJS). Located in Mongkok. tuition is HKD5,480. School bus is provided from TC at HKD1,500 per month. travel time is 45 to 50 minutes.
I am familiar with the 2 because my daughter was previously enrolled in Bauhinia in 06-07. But transferring her to DBPIS would mean an increase in tuition (plus no guarantee that they would minimize subsequent increases because it is classified as a PIS). I transferred my daughter to KJS for 07-08 since the tuition is lower and is regulated. Plus a school bus is provided.
Hope this helps.

Thanks dagregado. That is very helpful. I am thinking of living in Tung Chung and just rying to work around that. I thought in the past that ESF had quite strict boundaries regarding placements but with the intoduction of the Independent Schools this has become lass of an issue.

Hi Scottsue,
Some West Island students live at Tung Chung. They take MTR into Central, then the M47 bus from the Central Bus Depot (short walk undercover) - M47 bus goes every 15 mins and stops right outside WIS. Total commute is about 35 mins which is normal for HK.

Thanks tala. I appreciate your effort in replying. I guess I am just worrying about living in DB with no hospital nearby and with no public transport bar the ferry.

I do understand! moving to HK forces you to change a lot of perceptions about living space and commuting distance, but the upside is that it is an amazing, vibrant city and your kids will thrive here and be very safe. I hear what you're saying about DB but people who live there just love it - the community spirit, the laid-back atmosphere - and seem to adjust to the ferry transport. In fact the school kids love the ferry to school; (big social get together!) And given the number of babies born there (it's not nicknamed 'Delivery Bay' for nothing!) the lack of a hospital doesn't seem to be an issue - there are doctors and ambulance transport. As for living-space - We too had rservations about moving into something much smaller, but it does cut housework and DIY to a minimum, there's 24 hour security and generally HK has been a great place for my teenagers to grow up, so I've learned to love the good things. Hang in there, it will all work out.
