I'm being seconded to HK in September and know v little about the place other thn web research. Coming over next month to meet re-location agents lined up by my company but could do with a head start.

I'd therefore be very grateful to get views/opinions on:-

1) where is the best place to live for the budget below. I'm 38 and married but with no kids. A bit of night life would be good but a decent place and soem relaxation space are way more important.

2) Can I get a top notch place for HK$ 40,000 a month, which is the allowance from the employers currently on the table.

Any advice v much appreciated.

AHR,

with your price of HK40k, you can definitely get a very decent place to live. It really depends on your needs. I would assume that you would like a place where a lot of expatriates, less polluted and noisy. also you have to consider where will you be working. THere are two sides of Hong Kong , Hong Kong side and kowloon side. With your quoted price although hong kong's property has increased, you can still get a place half price.

Thanks JG, appreciate the info. I will be working near the racecourse apparently, in the business district although not yet strictly sure.

You are right when you say I would be looking for somewhere less crowded and less polluted. I don't mind a bit of reasonable travelling (20-30 mins commute) to be able to do that. Where would you suggest I look to do that.

Many thanks
