My 2 year lease is reaching the end. My landlord has now increased the rent on my apt to more than 50%. I was told that legally i am entitled to stay in the premises for a further 12 mths and pay the same rental i've been paying for the previous 2 years. Is this true? Though it sounds great for me it does seem extremely unfair to the landlord. Shouldnt he be entiltled to charge what ever rent he wants.?

The date was in July last year, so you are on the old contract, so no problems! Landlord can't increase your rent and must give you a 12 month notice to vacate the apartment. We've just done the same thing.

We signed our contract in August 2003 so this rule should apply to us.
I suppose i shouldnt feel too bad since we offered to pay 45% more and he turned it down.
Thanks!
Where can i get confirmation of this legislation so i can refer to it when i talk to my landlord? ie does anyone know the relevant website?

I think it's July *2004* when the tenancy changes kicked in, not July 2003....
