How much for a comfortable place?

Hi there,

I went out looking for an apartment with a broker yesterday and was quite shocked at what I saw, I am looking in mid-levels and my budget is around $15k. All of the apartments we saw were about 600 sq. feet, however they seemed more like 400 - in fact I have never seen bedrooms that small in my life.

Basically, I need a comfortable 1 bedroom apt, should be about 600 to 700 real sq. feet in Central or Mid-levels. Can anyone recomend a building and suggest an appropriate price?

I'm coming from NYC, were rent is also alot, but I must say I am shocked after yesterday.

Thanks for any suggestions,

Ravi

I would suggest you try Happy Valley - for 15k you should be able get 2 bedrooms 700-800sf. Also, if you west of midlevels the prices are lower...

Hi Susan,

Based on what I have seen, I would definitely suggest Mid-Levels, or some of the complexes in Repulse Bay. Repulse Bay is near the beach and mid-levels is near Central.

Hello All I am from Florida and now live in NY I am relocating to HK in October. My husband and I will have paid accomadations to house hunt for 3-5 months @ the headland hotel on Lantau Island. We have heard to check out Discovery Bay on Lantau Island, Does anyone have feedback on this area? We have no children but two cats so it has to be pet friendly and we are in our mid 20's so would like to be in place with a lot of things to do. Any suggestions or feedback would be much appreciated and helpful!!!!

My husband is working w/ Cathay but he was hired in w/ permanent base in HK and we both fell in love with HK while thier on his 2nd interview. I like clean and tidy but don't want to feel surrounded only by cathay people as I will be alone quite often and want to socialize and find my own place in HK so your saying that although discovery bay is nice it is mostly cathay people? I liked the mid-levels but heard it was pricey.

iskelly, why so particular about being close to americans and brits only? How about the locals, other europeans, etc... if you only want to be close to the american and british population, then I think you should stay where you are and not move to HK. I understand you are from SF and have 2 kids and will be "scared" when you first get here, but don't limit yourself even before you have lived here. HK is known for its diversity and you'll meet tons of people from other cultures. You don't have to sacrifice space for location. You have 2 kids, you need the space. It'll be good for your sanity. Come here first and see for yourself. You'll realize you don't need to cling to just the american and british population.
