Does anyone here happen to live in Tung Chung? Can you please tell me about the area, i.e. pros and cons? Is it convenient to get to Central?

Thanks

Thanks Edwina69.

I'm not yet in HK so would probably need more information. I guess it's not very convenient to commute to Central by the sound of it??

That sounds fine actually. I live in london so I'm used to the commute. 35 mins is not bad at all. When I said 'convenient' I meant if it's easy to get to Central from there by public transport and you don't have to change train/ferry/bus about 3 times each journey...

I'm pushing my luck here Edwina69. Are there any nice complex, building in the area that you would recommend (i.e. with clubhouse, pool, etc...)

Thanks.

I think the pollution is very bad in TC. In the news it always mentions this area breaking pollutioin level records

Really??? I wasn't aware of that. Thanks for bringing that up Innocence. It's good to know.

Would you recommend Lantau and Lamma islands?

It's eye openning for me. Very useful. Thanks Ed.

Which areas would you recommend? We are a married couple (no kids!) and coming to HK in mid-Nov. We are looking for somewhere with a bit of space and greenery, easy to commute to Central. Our budget is up to HK$ 15000/month.

Any ideas welcomed.

Thanks.

Lamma Island is worth a look - should be able to get something of decent size for 15k.

I live in Tung Chung, worked in Admiralty and hubby works in Central. The commute is good since its via MTR which takes 30 minutes. The air pollution is bad some days but then nowadays the air pollution everywhere in HK is bad. There are new buildings with clubhouse, bowling and indoor & outdoor pools. Not much greenery.

You can also try Discovery Bay, it's 25 minutes to Central by ferry...it definitely has it's pros and cons.

I visited a friend who lives in Tung Chung Crescent. It is a nice compact community on its own, with a club house with more than enough available activities for both of you. I live in Wanchai now, and had I seen this place we would have chosen to live here.

Convenience-wise, I personally do not mind the 30-minute commute to Central since stops are far in between and it doesn't get as crowded as the Tsuen Wan line. There is a shopping mall within the complex, a huge Park n Shop, cinema and some restos. The beach is 15minutes away and nature trails are quite nearby.

I suggest you go and see as much places as you can before deciding. We were kinda hasty so now I'm looking forward to the end of our contract. We spent more in our Wanchai flat since we had to buy additional stuff (it was furnished but the items were so tacky I couldn't stand them). My friend's flat is a 3bedroom number with 2 baths and a maid's room with own bath. tastefully decorated and came at only 10k, same as ours. Maybe she was just very lucky...Hope this helps.
