I am relocating to HK around end of Nov. Would appreciate if anyone could help let me know of any convenient location to live. I will be workingin Shatin near the KCR I was told. I'm looking for convenience of falcities (supermarket, gym, quiet neighborhood, etc.).
Much appreciated.

Quiet neighbourhood???Hmmm that might be a tough one in most parts of HK.
The following places would be OK to live in - easy access to the KCR which will take you to work....depending on your budget. Times are approximate...
In order from closest to furthest from Shatin - all on the Kowloon Peninsula.
parts of Shatin (Fo Tan) (10 mins by bus to work)
Kowloon Tong (10 mins by train to work)
Beacon Hill (10 mins walk, 10 mins train)
Yau Yat Tsuen (10 mins walk, 10 mins train)
Ho Man Tin (Kadoorie Avenue) (5-10 mins walk, 15 mins train)
Kings park 5 mins walk, 10 mins MTR, 10 mins KCR)
Jordan (5 mins walk, 13 mins MTR, 10 mins KCR)
TST (5-10 mins walk, 15 mins MTR, 10 mins KCR) or
5-10 mins walk 15 mins KCR)
Hung Hom (5 -10 mins walk, 20 mins KCR)
Hope this gives you some clues. Most of the above are nice neighbourhoods, and will have gyms nearby. Kowloon Tong has a huge supermarket as does Shatin,

Hi Dimac4,
Thanks very much for going through the trouble in taking the time to list the potential places to live. I'll definitely be checking a HK map to find out more about those locations.
I was told about a place called Ma On Shan and not so far from Shatin and apparently the east KCR line can connect to the Shatin locatin. Any comments on that location?
Thanks in advance.

Ma On Shan is OK, but very few expats, although Symphony Bay looks very nice. You could also look at Kau to Shan, some very nice places up there although a bit expensive as it has very good Feng Shui apparently. Royal Ascot is not a bad complex, with all the facilities, as is Deerhill bay on the Old Tai Po rd, don't know the prices though. You could even look up in Tai Po, its not too far on the train, maybe 15 mins or so. Cheaper rents, nice parks. Also Hong Lok Yuen is a big expat area and well within commuting distance to Sha Tin.

Ma On Shan is a satellite town - pretty, has a pool and a pretty big shopping centre. There are few expats living there - you could check out the Horizon Suite Hotel has suites and apartments - serviced and not serviced available. All are furnished. Has a pool and a gym and a shopping centre as part of the complex - and a number of expats live there. And a shuttle bus to the KCR and bus stations, shatin town centre, and Diamond Hill MTR.

Hi Pupp,
How many persons you have? Sympthony Bay is good but mostly 3~4 bed rooms at 1200sqft ~ 1600 sqft. It is quiet and there are shuttle buses going to Shatin KCR every 15 minutes. I have a 1620sqft fully furnished apartment at Symphony Bay for rent. Available in 10 days ( being renovated ).

If you have time for a look-see, that would be best. I suggest you find several property agents so you can see for yourself the apartments available which are within 10minutes to your place of work, or to the nearest KCR station. They are a big help, just make sure you specify your requirements so they won'r waste your time showing you run-down, tacky flats...

Hi William,
Thanks for suggesting the Symphony Bay prospect, but I'm mostly looking for a 700 sq ft apt... and within 25 mins or less to work location and perhaps one that comes with a smaller bedroom as a bonus. If you happen to know anyone with an apt meeting the above criteria, that would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Hi Annebin,
Appreciate your helpful tips. I am looking at about 1 week for apartment hunting. Hopefully, that would be enough to get an idea where the ideal places are located before deciding. If it is not too much trouble, would you have any reputable and reliable agents that you may provide me?
Thanks.

Hi
I stay in the Horizon Suite in Ma On Shan.
they are of a good standard and they do not cost a fortune, it has Gym,Pool,Sauna shop etc and two bedrooms the rates vary but my rent incl elec,Cable TV, Braodband internet is 10,000 hkd per month. Free shuttle bus to all major MTR and KCR in fact there is a free bus runs to Shatin. Ma On Shan has everything you could ever need, yes its true there are not many expats but it is smog free, sea and mountain view... if you like for info just send me reply and i will forward my email... Hi Pup
Sure my email is diggerdoe@yahoo.co.uk
I am on the 16th Floor, Sea View.
Yes the shuttle bus does get busy but it depends on what time you travel, I have never failed to get a seat on any of the shuttle buses which ever destination. I catch the 07:20 to University then train through to China the whole trip take 30 mins, bus only take 10 mins...
Email me with any other questions or information.
