Hello all,
I just recently arrived in Hong Kong, originally planning to live in an apartment supplied by my employer. As this is no longer a possibility, I am in need of a new flat. However, I have no working permit and thus no Hong Kong ID yet. Is it possible to find a (rather cheap) flat without that, or should I better look for shared flats?
thanks/ cheers,
loop

TC: I will need short-term to mid-term accomodations until I get a work permit and thus an ID, which I have been told could take up to eight weeks. But do I understand correctly that an ID is not mandatory for renting a place, but merely serves as an insurance for the landlord?
thx, loop

If I could wade in amongst all of the bidders...
For anyone's future reference, YES you can get a proper lease on a property without HK ID. I used my passport supplemented with a letter from my employer to obtain a 2 year lease.
