Hello, I'm looking for a flat for 6 months to a year in Hong Kong. I'm only here on a short-term travel visa, would there be any problems with only having a short-term visa? and staying here.

I think all landlords are looking for 2 months rental deposit and maybe some proof that you can have enough money to pay the rent for the duration of the lease... whether or not you are on student visa/ travel visa is not critical.
Also, check the service apts. in this site as it is quite comprehensive.
Can U please tell us your budget is and we might hve more advice to you
