I'm taking time off from an MBA program to see a different part of the world, learn a new language, meet people, and have fun. My plan is to fly into HK and stay in a hotel while I look at apartments. shared apartments are okay too since I need to stretch my budget to the end of the MBA. Is it realistic to find a place in HK in one week? Not sure if language will be a barrier here. I'm asian but don't speak any Cantonese.

Well long ago, when I first arrived the company that had hired me put me into a hotel. I guess when they decided I was a keeper they gave me 1 week notice to get out or start paying hotel rates. I found an apartment in one afternoon. Granted I could have found less expensive and more suitable places if I had more time to shop, but yes it can be done.
If you have fulltime to search you should be able to get all set up in a week. English should not be a problem.
