Is it really hard to find a place to rent in Happy Valley ? I really want to move to that area and would even consider flat share - but I cant find many adds for housing in this area -- on the asia expat housing section or elsewhere .
Can anyone suggest a good site ?

Best to visit the area and find yourself an agent to take you around and show you available flats.

Sure - but I was hoping not to have to pay 2 weeks rent to an agency

There is the poss that a flat in my building is going to be free sometime over the next few months. It's only one bed but in a great location and has a small roof too.

There's a site called Proway but you're looking to get something without an agent, and unfortunately Proway is a large agency. But, their listing is extensive and definitely includes Happy Valley. Maybe you could get a month-lease at a service apartment so you could give yourself more time to look for something more permanent. Or, your best bet is to visit the area. I paid $5,600 agent fee when I got my flat so I understand how much you want to avoid those nasty fees. Good luck!

There are a few HV properties listed under Direct Owner For Lease on this site. Have you tried all of them?
