I'm considering moving to Kennedy Town. It seems that it's pretty well connected to central and has decent apartments with sea views.
I'm wondering why the apartments in the area aren't as expensive as in some other parts of HK. What are the drawbacks of living in Kennedy Town?

It was traditionally a working class / blue collar "Chinese" area of HK Island and was filled with everything that needed to be hidden from "nice" white people - abattoirs, animal incinerators (seen the three chimneys there?), the pier to ship HK's excrement to China, public cargo working areas, the "waste transfer station", etc.
It's still not an expat area (using "expat" here to mean Caucasians earning HK$1 million+ per year). So it's good value to rent; but buying is risky - it will fall more sharply than "nice" areas in the next property market downturn. Equally, you can argue it has potential as it gets cleaned up; but it still lacks greenery and "class". I feel depressed every time I go there. It's Bermondsey, not Chelsea. Location, location, location.
