My wife and I are considering moving to the Gold Coast. We've been up there a few times and it looks quite nice but aren't sure what it's like in general with regard to living there.
We live in central just now and although it is very convenient it's crowded, expensive, etc. We have heard that the Gold Coast is actually quite cheap for what you can get. Our place in central is over 1,000 sq ft so we'd be looking for something at least the same size if not bigger. Are we being unreasonable in what we're thinking?
Final question - is it worth just taking a trip to the Gold Coast and popping into the real estate agencies there? Any recommendations? After years of living in HK I know most estate agents are a real pain in the...
Thanks,
Jim

I went to the gold coast on Saturday to have a look at what was available. I didn't go to the leasing office as I was too late and they were closed. I did go to the small estate agents opposite the mall and to be honest I wasn't too sure on the guy who we spoke to there. He was a bit shifty and reminded me of so many estate agents in HK who are unscrupulous to say the least and will sell you anything in order to make money.
However, after having looked at some places / prices on the net I've seen a few flats and houses in So Kwun Tan that seem very reasonable and it looks to be very close to the Gold Coast itself. Does anyone know anymore about this area? Recommended or shunned?
Also, I have seen a few houses listed for rent in Surfside Villas which appear to be fantastic. However, I have been informed (not sure how reliably) that Surfside is for rental only. There are no properties for sale here. Is this true?
