I lived on the GC for 2 years until 1998.
I was wondering how it has changed since then.
When I lived there, there were still empty buildings on Phase 2.
Has the ferry now stopped to Central? If so, why?
Thanks :)

Hi,
There are no empty buildings in Phase 2 anymore and the ferry service has been suspended. There is a minibus to Central that takes about 25mins to exchange square, so its quicker than the ferry used to be.

Hi,
I am seriously considering moving to Gold Coast also. However, I visited there 2 weeks ago and noticed that one whole block was empty. Is there a reason for this ? and do I need to contact Sino directly if I want to rent in Phase 2?

hi,
it is possible to rent from an individual landlord but Sino sold only a few units in phase 2 so these landlords/apartments may be hard to find.
if you do decide to lease from Sino, give me a call on 2457 0295 and i'll try to hook you up with a nice apartment + if you lease from us, u dont need to pay any comission.
BTW, which block was empty? Tower 18? coz that block is getting an interior face lift... the apartments are pretty sweet.
cheers,
rohan

Bear in mind that whilst Gold Coast IS a beautiful place to live in, Sino have increased the rents AGAIN by a silly amount. I believe that a 1300sq ft A flat in the front towers, Twr 19-21, is going for approx 23000.
2 years ago we were renting one for 16000 !!!!
Ridiculous, especialy as we moved up the road, doubled our living space all for the same amount of money.

Hi,
Thank you for you reply! I am now sold on living in Gold Coast but concerned by your response oj. I always considered GC an affordable alternative to living in other parts of HK. I have talked to a work colleague who lives there and they believe Sino are attempting to buy out the privately owned properties not under their ownership. does anyone know if this is true? I am shocked to here about the enormous rent hikes by Sino. I am not sure this can be justified in a market that has stagnated and in some cases seen price reversals. I will do my research carefully. Thanks again!

If you look at Aegean Coast, which are the new apartment blocks between Phase 1 & 2, the money that you part for Gold Coast, isn't worth it. You get heaps more room at Aegean Coast. It's only 3 years old (I think). We were just there at the Gold Coast it's really run down, even in Phase 2 unlike Aegean.

Just up the road but it looks as though we'll need to move again as the gorgeous old place we're in is going to be pulled down next year, typical.
As for comparing Agean and GC.
Agean certainly does have a fantastic clubhouse and TWO pools, tennis courts etc and the flats are nicely finished but i wouldn't say they are bigger than Phase 2. If you go for the bigger apartments (just under 1000sq ft) i think in Towers 9-15 then they are bigger than Aegean.
My advice, have a look and see which you prefer, and if i can help i will.

hi oj,
the apartments at the gold coast start at $8,700 for a 2bedroom and a 935sq.ft 3br with 1 car park would start at $13,200/month for a long term lease.
Maybe its not that expensive after all.
Cheers,
rohan

Ok but which Towers, the nicer Towers (and more popular ones) are Twrs 19-21 because of the views, so depends on what your priorities are.
Sounds like, by the size of the apartments) those Twrs are back onto the Castle Peak Rd which can get noisy at night especiallly with the boy racers in their souped up Toyota Echo's.

actually, these 935 apartments overlook the bay on one side and the swimming pool on the other. hk_newbie... did u decide to stay at the GC after all?
cheers,
rohan
