How far is this away from central?
Has it been completed yet? Their website is hard to glean alot of information from.
Is it suitable for family with children?
I don't want to be travelling hours every day back and forward to work.

I have lived here for a year and a half. Very suitable for children. Great pool / recreation room. A bit far but morning bus beats the traffic and doesn't take much more than half an hour. I am leaving cs our rent is going up from 12k to 15k but we have had a great time here.

I still live there and I can't wait to get out. I live with my wife and 3 year old daughter. The 2 bedroom apartments are small. We will be moving out for somewhere bigger. The only thing we will miss about the place is the pool. The management of the place are absolute wankers! They told my daughter last week that she can't ride her bike out through the exit to get outside. We had massive problems with them in July when on holidays in Vietnam. There was a problem with our rent (They stuffed up) and were threatening to lock our doors and move our things out.

Wow! Horizon Suite doesn't really sound like the place we would feel welcome. Thanks for the information. We have two children, one is almost 3 years old and she loves to ride her bike.
What are thoughts about Discovery Bay or Tung Chung or Park Island??

Sorry but I don't know much about those other places. I do know that Discovery Bay is full of expats although I have never been there in the 18 months I have been in HK.

Kaleidoscope,We are moving out in the next montgh from Horizon Suites. Our lease runs until February 17th. If you wish you are more than welcome to take our lease over until Feb 17th o see what you think of Horizon Suites or until you find somewhere else. We pay $9600 HK a month because we are on a 12 month lease. If you sign a short term lease (1 or 6 months) it is considerably more. There is no pressure at all just thought it might be something you might like to consider (noting my previous post above!!). Not a problem if you don't. Cheers.

Spurs: Thank you so much for the offer of taking over lease. Are you permitted to do that? Seems like quite a few people do. The Horizon's website quotes cheaper rates than yours. Is there different rates for lease time or different interiors or floors? As you said it was small for your family, hopefully it wouldn't be too small for ours (2 adults, 2 children 11 & 3)? Is it fully furnished? Are there other families with children we could meet or mainly uni students?
I don't get to HK till late October, maybe early November, so this might be too late for you.
Do you have any pics you can email?
How much time really would it take me to get to Quarry Bay?
How far is the Uni and is it only Chinese language Uni?
I am quite tempted by offer as it would give us a good insight and feel of the place. I will be looking for accommodation as soon as I hit the ground! Can we organise time to view?

Spurs,

I'm thinking about a move!
Thanks

Hi,
$9600 gets us a 677sq foot apartment (partial water views only), 2 bedrooms, the master has built-ins and large dressing table, the second has bunks and a wardrobe. Nicely decorated (darkwood/rattan/sages and browns etc). Bathroom with bath and large area for sink/washing machine etc. Kitchen very small but open to the loungeroom. 9 cupboards in the kitchen, microwave, fridge and cook-top. No oven. Desk, 4-seater dining table, couch and one-seater. The $9,600 also includes our club membership and phoneline. The club is an area on mezzanine floor with gym, reading area, computers. Gorgeous pool on second floor overlooking the ocean. Hotel has shuttle buses - once a day to central, several a day to university, every hour to Tsim sha tsui, diamond hill and shatin.
We would expect our rent to go up significantly at next lease signing as have been hearing stories about others' going up. Possibly would be looking at $12000 for the same thing.
Extras are our internet (about $180/month) and electricity (calculated on a meter, cost $200-800/month from winter to summer).
parking is additional, about $2000/month I think, but not sure??.
Hotel management is a bit of a problem as there are some silly rules (such as using some of the open areas, having a bike etc) but we have managed to cope for 18months and are only now going slightly insane!
There are 3 bedroom apartments here but around $26000. Foreignors tend to pay more than Chinese for the rents, but thats generally also the ability to negotiate in the language, so if you have anyone at work to help you its better.
oh, also there is a parknshop mini store in the hotel downstairs which is sensationally convenient. (hotel is owned by the parknshop gang).
Let me know if anymore q's.
Cheers

Does Horizon have tennis courts? If not where are the closest courts?
Do apartments have balcony?

Hi,
No there isn't at the hotel. There is a sports stadium with running track and soccer/tennis/hockey courts about a 10 minute walk which we used. Hiring can be done over the internet and you pay when you get there.
The apartments don't have balconies.

Hi Kaleidoscope!
We considered Horizon Suite. But we are now living at the HKGold Coast and we have a little bubba. It's fantastic for kids there. Heaps of land... we were really missing the quiet and space from Oz. No rules for kids. It's nice to see boys running around with their dads on the weekends playing cricket on the green. We even managed a great price! There are some rogue agents there. Let me know if you are interested. I'll let on to our agent who managed to score us a great deal in comparison to the published rates.

Btw... It's about 40 minutes from Central by bus and there is a direct shuttle from the resort. I moved there coz of my hubby who is staying at home with our son. He was feeling a little isolated from the language barrier and felt most comfortable at HKGold Coast. There is even an organised mother's group that he will be attending soon. So it's really child and dad friendly ;-) We checked out Park Island but the facilities werent sufficient in comparison to the number of residents. On a midweek day at 3pm, the pool was crowded! Imagine what it'll be like on the weekend! Anyway, good Luck with your search!

Thanks for that invaluable information. I am concerned it might be too far from Quarry Bay to travel each day. How much is the shuttle or is it free? Out of interest how much are taxis to Central?
Do they allow dogs? We are still contemplating bringing our Papillion.
I would be very interested in your agent. I have found some great sites, but they are in Chinese, so don't really know what they offer.
