Sai K / ClearW Bay - Both parents working

ORIGINAL POST

Hi,

we are looking for a new area to live in HK (we've lived in Happy Valley, Central/ Lamma/ Mid-levels so far!).

We have a daughter of 2, and a helper. What is Sai Kung / Clearwater Bay like if both parents work?

What will HK$25k get us? Is there a particularly good area to live, for new(ish) parents?

we have quite a good community where we live now, but unfortunately are being forced to move.

Any advice most appreciated.

don't knwo too much about saik kung/clearwater bay from a parents' perfective, but it is quite a nice place to live. there are few nice restaurants and bars in the town.

also consider the gold coast. its got a nice community of young parents and lots of open spaces for your daughter.

hope this helps.

Hi, 25K could get you a village house, possibly with a garden area....or a duplex (2 floors), depending on location, views, facilities. I don't have children, but many of my friends do & they wouldn't live anywhere else. Bit more travelling time for everybody, but home time is more pleasant. Look around, there are many nice villages all the way from Clearwater Bay (20-30 minutes from Sai Kung; 40-45mins from central on public transport) to the other side of Sai Kung. Sai Kung also has a very active parent group organising lots of activities in & around the town for families.

Hi jamhk, did you end up moving to Sai Kung/CWB? If so, would you mind to share your thoughts. We are going through the same process now. We live on HK Island with four children and are tired of lack of space. Looking to buy in CWB/Sai Kung but we are both working on the island. Two elder kids attend school on the island but I will drive and bring them home every day sonot a problem. Just curious to kno whow your move went - if you did move. Torn between making the decision for convenience on the island and quality living in CWB/Sai Kung!

Yes, we've found a place, and move next week! So I'll let you know! We are going to CWB fairly near the Parknshop so should still be convenient I hope.

jamhk, congrats! I live in Silverstrand, it's definitely convenient where you are moving to. Just 5 minutes by car, or mini bus to Hang Hau MTR. It's 30 minutes on MTR from Hang hau to Central. Welcome to Clearwater Bay !

Hi Jamhk,

Mind sharing the newly CWB experience with us? We are a couple, a helper with an expecting child. We do fancy that Parknshop area, did you mgt to get a duplex (2-3rd floor w/ rooftop) within 25K? Let me know when you have time. thanks a lot.

Absolutely loving it....we should have done it sooner! Unfortunately our budget was stretched into the 30's, but we've got a gorgeous place with a garden, and my little girl is just loving it! When are you due?

Lucky you! the 30K you mention is a whole house or..? Is always nice to have a garden or backyard for children to run around. I had a word with my husband the other day and he suggests to delay the moving plans all the way till Dec!! Since our baby will be 5 months old by that time and reckons is easier to manage..

We only hvae the lower 2 floors. I definitely recommend finding somewhere with a garden, it is much more accessible, and you'll use it a lot more than a roof. Not really sure when a good time to move is. If you have friends who are pregnant I'd advise you to stay near them when your new one is young, for your own sanity and support! I have a girlfriend out this way who is due in September.

$30k + does seem expensive for 2 floors, I know many people that pay less than that for a whole house. I suppose it does depend where you are. The silverstrand area is about the most expensive area of Clearwater Bay.
