Rental Increase

Just wondering if my landlord decides to increase my rent by 10% after 12 months of renting, is that legal? Is there anyway for me not to agree to the increment? It was a private deal and if he does want to increase rent, is there a way that I can get out of my contract before it is actually up? I live in Park Island and I've been looking around and there are units that are definitely cheaper than what I'm paying.

It is not legal to increase the rent within a running contract.

Ooh, ooh! Sorry I dont know anything about the rental laws, but I am looking at living on Park Island, do you know of any other private deals happening in the next couple of months or can you give me any info about living on the island?
