Is my landlord screwing me?

There is a clause in my renewal contract that states that if I sign the document and do not visit the landlord's office within the week, they will take my current safety deposit.

Is this legal? I feel like I'm being threatened.

My landlord is Chinachem, and they have raised my rent by 20%. Other tenants are moving out and there are a lot of empty flats. So of course I'd like to negotiate the rent, but the landlord leasing manager does not take my calls at all. At this rate he'll just wait until either I have no choice but to sign or face eviction.

Any advice on what to do?

The owner of Chinachem Nina Want just passed away recently.

She supposedly left all her money to a Fung Shui Master.

Perhaps your manager might be busy by other things occupying his/her mind.

Nina's relatives and charitable organizations are going to take the matter to court.

where do you live? WE are tenants of chinachem and while they are pretty blunt they are fair (by HK standards), sadly rents have gone up a lot. I think i know which doc you are referring to. They need you to give them the increased deposit i imagine. If you sign it then they can do this - the other option you have is not to sign it?

I would keep trying to talk with them - I speak to them all the time about my flat!

Need2Know, I have no idea what document you're referring to, but I can tell you that it's not possible to negotiate with Chinachem.
