We are an expat couple relocating in HK early Sept. We are looking for a 2 bedroom apt that is close to Cybeport. Our budget is only bet 12-14K per month. Any suggestions? It is my wish to get an apt in Residence Bel Air, but it seems my budget is below the current rental rate there. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Hi! Well...Pokfulam in general has gone absolutely CRAZY lately! Baguio Villa is right above Cyberport, but the two bedrooms (in upper baguio - no 2-bdrms in lower baguio) are going for $20,000+. I've spoken to an agent recently and the closest you'll come to Cyberport and be within your budget is Bisney Road, and that's only a "maybe and if you're lucky" kind of scenario! Or there is that new-ish building on the way in to Wah Fu (near Kellett School) that looks nice and is close to Cyberport too, kind of, but not sure what the rents are there. Just FYI -- We're in a two-bdrm in upper baguio at the moment and thinking of leaving because our rent was just raised from $15,660 (all inclusive) to $20,660 and the prop agent said to take it because we'd never find another place here cheaper than that!

dear browneyegirl,
why do you think pokfulam has gone crazy all of a sudden?
it seems like other areas have gone crazy as well.

Is that a trick question? :)

sorry browneyegirl,
what i meant was prices/rents have gone up quite a bit in other areas as well.
quite a few of my friends have had their rents increased anywhere from 20-50% when they renewed their contract.
a friend of mine currently is renting a place in Sham Wan Towers. She really likes it there because there are great facilities (swimming pool, restaurant, BBQ area, childrens playroom, computer room, gym) and it's a fairly new building.
She pays only $9,000 for a 600 sq ft apartment.
check it out.

hi again,
thanks F100 for the reply -- and the apology. I often type without thinking about how it will be read, not remembering how 'loud' the capitals can be! :) And I appreciate the info on Sham Wan Towers -- have heard great things about it. As far as my situation, we may bite the bullet and stay in Baguio or we may get rid of everything and go the serviced apartment route. Or we may go to South Horizons. We still have awhile to decide.
And sorry, dinaleah for hijacking the thread with my housing woes (challenges?)...I really actually don't mind all the upheaval -- sometimes that can actually be good (at least that's what I'm telling myself!)
Let's see....I've never heard of The Merton (although I probably pass it every day) and I was under the impression that The Belcher's was also quite pricey, but have never checked it out personally (been to the shopping centre there, but never seen the inside of the flats). The Belcher's is more towards the Central way, while we've been looking more at the Aberdeen/Ap Lei Chau way -- including South Horizons at one end of Ap Lei Chau...I've seen so many flats at South Horizons - in all the phases and practically all of the towers - but still can't get my head around paying nearly the same money as Baguio for what is a way smaller-net-area flat in a much busier complex. But what I do like about South Horizons is its incredibly convenient transport network, shopping complex and super strong breezes (very refreshing), plus clubhouse facilities and swimming pools and playgrounds.

thank you, thank you, F100 and browneyegirl. these are really helpful. we will check out sham wan towers and south horizons then. we are looking forward to going back to HK. (we were there 1 year ago but stayed mostly in the Central area).
