I am living in Lamma Island and as I know buying a "Village House" is not easy as you think. The Village House has a lot of potential problems because these kind of houses got some advantages from the Government. They are free of charge when the village people born a "BOY" but not for girl. Government will give the BOY the right of owing a piece of land when he is 18 years old but usually have to wait for a long period. Or even give you the land is not the one you want it, then as a result, the boy got the land and want to sell to public but there will a lot of restrictions on this because this is a FREE OF CHARGE LAND TO THE VILLAGE PEOPLE.

Or you can go to www.landed.hk to see what an expat writer can give you some ideas of buying a house in HK. I think this is very helpful.

Good luck!
