House sitting opportunities/questions

Hello all,

Our little family of mum, dad and a 9 month old will be moving to HK indeffinately in May to start life as yet another Cathay family in HK! We plan to rent appartments for 3-6 months at a time before deciding where to buy after a year or 2 of really getting to know the place. We're travelling over quite light really, and when renting will be seeking furnished appartments -to transport items like a 50 inch plasma TV, massive sofa or a king sized bed seems to be an ineffective use of our container allowance.

I understand that house sitters are most often paid to look after a house whilst the usual tennants are away but I was wondering if there would be any point to looking for people who need a house sitter who is willing to contribute financially (rent) whilst looking after plants, pets, mail, etc for periods ranging from 1 to 3+ months? This might suit a family who has to return to their old country for a few months.

Our only requirements would be that we need to be in reasonable commuting distance to the airport, enough room for the 3 of us (a 2br or 3br around 1000sqf would do fine) and if it's a walk up appartment that it's not too high as we have a stroller to think about.

We'll be getting a housing allowance of $14,000 in cash or $20,000 if there is a 'contract' like a lease agreement, so that's the budget we'd want to work within.

We're clean and easy-going, non-smokers and we're not coming with any animals or furnishings, so let me know if you think this is an avenue worth checking out or if you know of someone who might like to take us up on this offer.

Thanks in advance for any advice,

Adèle

Hi,

I write for a newspaper here in Hong Kong and am hoping to write a story on house sitting in Hong Kong. Was just wondering if you managed to find someong interested in your house sitting offer... Have you done house sitting in Hong Kong before? If so, and you'd be willing to have a quick chat about it, could you let me know how to contact you by email?

No, I haven't had any hits on my request and I've spent a grand total of 5 days in HK in my life so far, so that's a no to the other question! You may contact me if you like all the same, perhaps you'd want to set something up for your story and follow us.....'a month in the life of a house-sitter', or something like that!!

I'll PM you my e-mail address so check your inbox!

Cheers,

Adèle
