Who should I ask?

Currently in the process of purchasing a property. I would like someone to inspect the property to ensure there are no illegal structures which I don;t think there are and to check that any building works that have been carried out are safe, there is only one I can see. Who do I contact? A surveyor? I would appriciate any advice you can give that won't be too costly.

Thank you walkup - I want to know if it is a survaeyor or a structural engineer i should contact. i like to contact a firm directly and ask someone to come and have a look for me. Any contacts would be very helpful. thanks
