We are currently looking to move into an apartment in Tung Chung.
I find it strange that flats don't seem to have curtains. Is this something we should negociate with a landlord or would this be seen as out of line?
It just seems odd to be expected to fit out an apartment with curtains that would very likely not fit another apartment's windows in any future move?

yes, you ask it from the landlord to pay for the curtain, curtain rods (if not available) and related items before agreeing on the rental rate. also check if you need a block out curtain and specify it since it is more expensive. there is a curtain shop at fu tung shopping center that you can inquire for the cost.

Is Fu Tung shopping centre in Tung Chung?

yes, it is the one across citygate. a good property agent will help you with all these issues and things like utilities, application for personalised octopus cards, etc.
Will you be moving soon? my agent recently mentioned that there are very few units available for rent in Tung Chung (between 100 to 200 units in all among TC, SC, CS, CC) . So, it is usually taken within a month. Better to look for one when you will be moving in 2 months time at most..

Thanks for the advice. We were looking at moving in December, but have decided to break our lease and move by July now. We are expecting our first baby at the end of July.
The rental we are currently in was pretty much organised by the company we work for, which is why I am a bit in the dark about how and what to negociate!

We have twice rented places without curtains and both times had to pay for it ourselves. At the end of the first lease as a matter of principle we removed all the blinds and surprisingly could use several again in our new place. This time we will just leave them behind. I too think its odd that rentals don't come fitted with curtains or blinds but it seems quite common unfortunately. Mind you it is nicer to choose your own than get stuck with something hideous, personally I hate the window treatments of the other apartments in our complex so maybe it all worked out for the best.

We have asked the Landlord to supply curtains with block out backing in both the places we have leased and each time it has been agreed. We chose a neutral fabric which made it easier for negotiating.
