We are a family of four - two young daughters - and we really want to live in Sai Kung when we move to HK in August. We are also happy to live in a village within walking distance. More than likely we will buy a car. Question is this: we really would like something bigger than 700 square feet, I'd love to have a bath tub as well, and we are both teachers so on a budget. Oh, since I am an optimist, I would also love to line something up before moving in August. We live in Guangzhou, just across the border, so it's easy for us to come and look at properties, but we'll be going back to Canada in six weeks for the summer. What are our chances of making this dream a reality? Living right in the town would even be okay if the place was sound proof!
Would love any advice I can get!

That's about our budget! My husband will be teaching in Ma On Shan and I will be closer to Tai Po. Having a car is something we anticipate we will need. It sounds great with the exception of my elder daughter who will be coming to the school I teach at. The commute for me would be okay, but I'm not sure how she'd go with it or if a bus from our school would pick her up at such a remote village. I do love the idea on so many levels, though...give me some more info to tempt me further!

Thanks, Cara. Yes, I would like to get some the landlord's info and perhaps come take a look so we can see for ourselves. My husband will be at Renaissance College and I am at Japanese International on Tai Po Road at the top of the mountain. With a car, we could drop him off and then loop up to our school. It's a possibility! Are there any amenities in the town such as small shops or restaurants or is it pretty much just houses?

Dear Cara,
We, too, are interested in the two houses you mentioned. Not living in the country part makes it difficult to know what's available. Would you mind trying to get the phone #'s?
Thanks SO MUCH, in advance, for any help you can offer...

Dear Cara,
Could you also give me some information about your village/landlords? Thanks.
