Moving from Chicago in July. Can anyone comment on the pros and cons of living at Park View versus Repulse Bay oir Stanley?

hi, lived in Parkview and hated it and now live Stanley and love it. A month or two ago there was exactly the same thread - do a search on this forum - I also listed my reasons there. That said we have friends who live in Parkview and love it.
Anyway - Parkview - there is NOTHING around there, apart from the tai tam country walk, there is nothing to do and nowhere to go unless you get the bus into Central. I found it was a bit depressing really. It is also higher then most of the island and in the clouds half the time.
Stanley - 5 min walk to the beach, and Stanley village with the restaurants shopts etc - really lovely atmosphere. Just love it full stop.
Best come and have a look at both really.

thanks, ld. I found the thread from 81 days ago! Manhattan soudns nice. I have a family of 5 with 2 going to HKIS and I work in Central. Are Tai Tam and Stanley close enough to both of those to make sense? I still need to find a Kindergarden that has spots open which is why i considered Park View as PIPs has spots open.

Well, there is a school bus to HKIS which picks quite a lot of kids from our building every morning. There is a shuttle bus in the mornings to Central (that's where we both work) - 30 min ride. On the way back you can either take a public bus or a taxi (HK$110). There are a lot of kindergardens in the area, Stanley, Red Hill, Repulse bay - there is seriously a lot of choice - our two got to Montessouri in Red Hill - 2 min ride in taxi. Other kindergardens in Red Hill are Tutor Time and Sunshine House - you might have to wait for a spot in Monterssouri but I think both Tutor Time and Sunshine house have spots...
You do have to realise that it does take a while to get the right appartment/house - took us 3 months. And they say there is currently nothing in Manhattan, but not sure whether it is true...
Also of course depends on your budget - do you know what it is at the moment?

thanks. this is helpful. don't have a set budget but have been told to expect 100 to 150 hk per month to find a place for 5 folks at parkview, repulse or stanly areas.

yes, that is pretty good - of course try to push for $150k as prices going up by the day it seems - but it will get you a pretty decent place in eihter of those locations. You do tend to get a bit less for your money in Repulse bay tho - quite expensive

Gao fei,
It's correct that there is nothing available in The Manhattan but there may be in Pacific View, which is just next door. You should also consider South Bay, Shouson Hill and Repulse Bay. Which HKIS do you mean, the one in South Bay or the one in Tai Tam?
With regard to what ldsllvn has said about living in Parkview versus Stanley, it obviously depends on personal preference. Some people would not want to live in Stanley because it get so busy and at weekends is teeming with tourists. You need to have a look at the different areas and see where you would prefer to live.
I have sent you a PM with some ideas.
