Noise in mid-levels

We were apartment hunting in mid-levels on Sunday. When we checked out apartments on Robinson Road, the agent told us that the construction on Seymore Road (Swire Project?) is very noisy during the week. Could anyone advice on how badly the construction noise affects the surrounding buildings? We liked, for example, Robinson Place which, unfortunately, is immediately adjacent to the construction site. We will have kids home during the day and we don't want to subject them to constant noise.

Lived in Goldwin Heights before which is next to Robinson Place.


The piling occurs twice a day starting at around 12 midday for an hour, and then again between 5-7pm. This is approx - there are set times they can do the piling but I can't remember when it is. It also occurs once a day on Saturday at 12.


It is noisy and the building was shaking. If you are on higher levels it's less severe, but it is still there. If you are going to be home during the day, I would avoid living there.


Once the piling is finished, there will be less noise, but you will then get construction dust.

Moved to property

I believe the times for piling work are 11.00 am to 1.00 pm and 5.00 to 6.00 pm Monday to Friday, none on Sunday. I don't know about Saturday. If you're close to the construction site it's very noisy at those times, but it doesn't go on for ever. Bear in mind that wherever you live, you could end up with a new building being constructed close to you. At least the one on Seymour Road has already been going for a while so it won't be as long until it's finished!

Actually the site doesn't have development approval yet, so they are just doing the preparatory piling at the moment.

I live in Robinson Place and do not find the construction noise a nuisance. In fact there is not much noise, more vibration through the building when the piling is going on.


Admittedly if I am out during the day I am surprised on my return at the level of noise as I walk into the receiption area but it seems to dimish as I walk towards the lift well and again in my apartment. I do keep the windows closed so any noise is blocked out.


sxc is correct in saying that the piling starts at noon for one hour and then again between 5 and 7 in the evening Monday to Friday . It always stops by 7 pm. On Saturdays it goes for 1 hour around noon. No work on Sunday.


I don't find it bothersome in fact like a mother with children I find it no trouble to block it out - it's not that loud unless you are on a low level and windows open.


Having said all that I have heard that some families have moved out in anticipation of construction noise. Final building approval has not been granted yet above 12 floors but the developer is preparing the foundations anyway.


We have lived here for 5 years and love it. The staff are friendly, coureous and helpful. The facilities are great for both children and adults and it is close to 'downtown' whether it be Admiralty or Central.

Understand this is a very old post. Am running into the same issue now with a potential apartment. Other than the piling, how's the noise level for the rest of the construction? How long did it go for?
