We're starting a family and looking to buy an apartment with nice facilities, abt 750-1000 sf with at least 2 bedroooms @ abt 3M HKD budget.
For the above, we're deciding between Tung Chung and DB. Would like hear the pros and cons of living in the 2 places and recommendations of specific developments to look at. Thanks!

thanks, cara.
i'm aware that DB is definitely more expensive than TC. For the same budget, i may be getting smaller and older apts in DB compared to TC which are newer and bigger.
Considering the above, am wondering whether the trade-off is worth it...

I live in db, have a young baby and much prefer it here than anywhere in hk. I love the environment, although some think its too "polished". Its so much more baby/child friendly.
But cost of living is a lot higher. Obviously cost of apartments and food, only 1 park'n'shop with quite high prices. Other than that, great.

oh and very close to tc, if u needed to go shop there. Also, when u have a baby, u get to meet other mothers and form a reguler baby group easily.

I Don't like DB at all, allot of it is looking quite old and run down now, too many expats sitting around the square drinking beer at weekends for my liking. Three guys on Saturday morning sat at the pub sozzled, swearing and shouting at each other drunk as skunks at 11.00am is one example.
Inconvenient transport in and out of DB, when I return from a long flight I do not want to mess on with busses home and then have to drag my case to my apartment block or house.
Heard terrible tales of expat women being isolated and excluded because it’s very cliquey in DB. (Don’t know how true it is as it’s not my own experience)
Tung chung is far from perfect but has good apartments for your money with pools, gyms etc on your door step, open spaces, more facilities and more to come including a hospital and library, Easy transport too and from town and airport make it ideal for people not wanting to spend a fortune on accommodation so don’t want to live in town.
Just my personnel feeling of course and everyone is different. It may be different for you depending what your looking for from your home base.

Thanks for all comments so far. We went to TC to check out the place last weekend...must say we're quite impressed with the facilities & environment there. For the price, size and age of the apts, it seems like a good deal...except that it takes awhile to reach our workplace in Central/ Sheungwan.
Will check out DB next week before we make a decision...

Hi Kyander Blue,
May I know how big the apartment was that oyu lived/live in Tung Chung. We reallu like TC with all the great facilities and shopping, but really found the apartment size so small with 2 children (usually they were about 1220 sqft). If there was anything bigger it would be great. But with anything bigger there seems to be a steep increase in price as well (35K++)?
Thank you

I'm afraid that's just how it is, most apartments are 1220 or less and the price for bigger ones if/when available is much higher. All you can do is ask around with agents and see what they have.

Thank you Moppet. We will keep on looking for something slightly bigger to come up then.
