Hi,
I hope you might be able to help me. I am coming up to the break clause in my tenancy agreement. I live in a 585 sq ft apartment in Happy Valley (very central) and pay $15k a month. 1 of my friends has got a 20% reduction on their fully furnished apartment and another 30% on their apartment which they furnished themselves. I have heard multiple instances of people negotiating down this much and have also looked at a few apartments and noted that I can get far more for my money. Is asking for 30% reduction fair of the current market in HK?
Many Thanks for your help

Very fair.. the worst that could happen is they could say no and only give you 20.. its negotiations.. aim low.

The condition is good but in my block currently you can rent one of the bigger units (over 700 sq ft) for $15k so I think I can get some reduction - clearly just wondering how much!

I agree with walkup2 $15,000 sounds more than fair for an apartment in that area of that size. You often hear through the grapevine that apartments of a bigger size in the same block are cheaper, but it is often not the case and tends to be rumour. I think 700 sq ft for $15,000 in HV seems a little too good to be true unless the interior decor is really unsatisfactory - sounds as though you are getting a really good deal so I don't hold out much hope of you getting a reduction, but worth a try, let us know how you get on.

Hi there,
Thanks for all your replies.
Walk Up - I dont need any more space to live in on my own so I didnt see the need to create extra work and effort moving, plus the cost of a new finders fee and extra furniture.
I did manage to get a reduction on my rent which the landlord offered when I called to discuss my break clause.
