Any Expats in North Point area?

We are considering a move to North Point and wondered if there are any expats living in this area? When we've viewed flats, it appears very local...very old buildings...not many amenities to westerners. Thanks for any comments.

There are loads of expats in Kai Yuen Street. One thing to be aware of though is the redevelopment going on at the top just before Bedford Gardens. We used to live in Upper Kai Yuen Lane until last year when they kicked all the tennants out as they are going to redevlop that plot and the one next door into a modern sky rise tower. I've heard they have not as yet proceeded with this probably due to the current market, but when it does start up expect 2-3 years of noise and dust....

Without wishing to offend any realtors reading - I wouldn't trust what they say generally as they want to make the 'sale". We had to move out last year as the site was meant to move ahead immediately for redevelopment, so it is likely to be sooner rather than later that does start, and once it does there will be any number of trucks up and down the hill, which would be a pain as most people prefer to meander up the road than use the steps.

We never heard of any crime or break in when we lived there (we are still in North Point but closer to Fortress Hill now) we always felt very safe there. Also there is a police "log check book" by Bedford Gardens so a police van goes up the hill a couple of times a day, not sure if this helps as a deterrant. Once the construction work starts up there will of course be many more "non residents" in the area which generally leads to a feeling of increased chance of crime, whether it is in reality likely or just a perception I don't know.

We have a toddler too - he still has play dates with other toddlers in Kai Yuen St. There are a number of small parks within close walking distance and the larger quarry bay park a little bit further over all good destination to help run off steam.

If you do decide to move into the area send me a PM and maybe our toddlers can get together - they are always easier to entertain when they have a companion to get up to mischief with!

Good luck with your decision
