Extending lease by a few months

Is it possible to get a short term extension on a lease? My current two year lease will expire in March 2011 but my work contract does not expire until June 2011. Obviously we would not be able to sign a new lease and would like to avoid having to move into a short term rental. Is it possible in HK to extend a lease for a few months? Presumably if rents have gone up, the landlord may want some additional rent for doing so?

Depends on the individual owner of course ... SG Ed was able to extend his lease month by month when he bought a property and was waiting for it to be fitted out...

The landlord in this case is a corporate...which I guess means less flexibility

Just contact the landlord and come to some arrangement. However, when the lease is up... The lease is up. No right to automatic extension.

i thought there was once a law that said that if both parties agree, the payment of one more months rental will automatically extend the contract by one month

not sure this still works and it might also not be a law but just a ruling by a judge, but i think it's possible in principle

It is always possible....simply ask the landlord to extend and this can be done either by letter or by a new agreement...
