Hi,

About to set up a website and understand that one I have registered my business in Hong Kong I can use .com.hk. Now my target market is in Hong Kong so .com is not so necessary but can anyone tell me the pro's & con's of .com.hk vs .com with respect to doing business in Hong Kong? Will having .com.hk mean that "big brother" can control the content or should I not be concerned? the business is in the service industry so the content is basic information for clients. Any thoughts?

mog77,

it does not really matter if you have a .com or .com.hk extension.Agree that .com is a better option, just make sure to host the content on a non-hk/china server.

If you need any info, PM me. I do websites for a living.

There is also an extension with '.hk'. This would be certainly better than '.com.hk'. As you you going to do business in Hong Kong only, '.hk' is the better option.

Actually, the .hk is not the better option (though being an old thread the original poster has probably moved on).

.hk has been used by email spammers due to its easy registration and you can find mail delivery problems as a result due to systems flagging .hk as undesirable. Not a big problem, but enough to not use it.
