Upcoming exterior rennovation / Landlord didn't notify

Hi all,

Need your kind help with an issue that I have with my landlord... Would highly appreciate if anyone was able to advise me on how to hand the case.

I've moved (as a tenant) to my new apartment back in July-15 with a traditional 12+2 months tenancy agreement. The flat is located in Happy Valley and I've decided to rent this place manly because of the view. Fast forward to yesterday, there was a notice at the lobby mentioning that they've collected all the cash from the landlords to kick start the renovation, but no mention of what this is about, when it will start etc.

I've contacted both my property agent and the landlord but they pretended that they weren't really aware of what those renovations where about and it will most likely 'just' affect the staircase.

I've called Knight Frank (our building management company) and I've been told that the renovation is due to a government order (from a year and a half) and since then the landlords struggled to find a proper contractor. The renovation will consist of interior and exterior works and they will scaffold the building with bamboos and green stuffs for 6 months ! i.e. no more view and a lot of noise.

My question is as follow... The landlord clearly knew about the upcoming renovation (although she might not have been aware of the exact date) but failed to mention that to me when I've moved in. What is legally supposed to inform me ? If so, then I believe I will have no difficulty to move out before the renovation works start.

Thanks very much for your assistance.

Moon.

Duracell -

Thanks for your message.

I didn't ask the landlord whether there were some renovation works in the pipe as I would have believed either (or both) the landlord and the property agent have a legal duty to let the tenant know about any 'hidden' aspects related to the flat.

Will have a chat with some property agents and see if there is a way out.

If anyone has been through similar situation, would appreciate if you could advise.

Thanks vm all.

Cheers,
Moon.
