Taxi driver stockbrokers or bookies?

Hi,


Im new to Hong Kong and this forum. The other day i was in a Hong Kong taxi and my driver had about 4 mobile phones in front of him and a bluetooth headset in his ear,for the whole ride he was constantly answering calls and switching between phones. I asked my friend about this and he has seen it too. Im thinking they are playing the market or taking/making bets?


Can anybody clue me in?

they are indeed brokers but for taxi rides. people call to book a taxi at a big discount and he will reroute/advise which taxi picks up

I wonder why i haven't seen that elsewhere. I have lived in Beijing for a long time and there is nothing like that, i suppose it must have something to do with taxi regulations there.
