Sai Kung/Clearwater bay info needed

We need to move from our current apptm and we have been thinking about experiencing sai kung or clearwater bay.

Can anybody give us any advice on:

Transport: is it easy to get to TaiKoo Shing, central with public transport? bus or train

What train stop is the closest?

are the buses frequent?

We got a car so will be driving too

Is there anything to entertain kids 2.5 years old, playgroups, kindergarden, playground?

A gym? or where is the closest one? or cinema or shopping center? supermarkets? are there any wetmarkets close by?

Could you recomend any housing areas that could provide f.e. shuttle service, a pool, playground.

Is it true that there are monkeys that come and attack? and are there snakes around?

Any pros or cons about this area that we need to keep in mind?

Will be working with an agent soon but any help/advice would be appreciated.

1) public transport is good, buses are very frequent, but a car certainly makes it easier.

The 2 nearest mtr stops are Hang Hau and Choi Hung both served by minibuses and diuble deckers. Both also have park and ride schemes where you can park for $5 an hour and use the train.

2) There are several kindys, including Abacus, New Song, PPA and Greenfields. There's a couple of small parks in Sai Kung, plus the beaches at Clearwater Bay, Trio Beach and Half Moon Bay. Tseung Kwan O has a huge park, big swimming pool, public library. Sai Kung also has a swimming pool, tennis courts and library.

3) There are a couple of gyms in Sai Kung.

4) There are big shopping centres in Hang Hau, including wet market, also Metro City in Po Lam, Park nshop in Clearwater Bay. Sai Kung is also good for shoppoing, good welcome, nice butchers and bakers, hardware stores etc, plus a wet market, and good fresh fish from the fishing boats along the harbour.

5) Hillview court has a shuttle bus, pool etc, as does Portofino, but that is mega expensive.

6) I've never heard of a monkey attacking. we've had 1 in our garden in 6 1/2 years, and our neighbour had one. We've had about 5 baby snakes in the garden over the years, and twice I've seen one out walking, but snakes seldom attack, they will generally hear you coming and get out of your way.

The only con is that Sai Kung gets really busy on weekends with lots of tourists going down there. It can cause lots of traffic problems on Hirams Highway.

We live towards Sai Kung and I work in Taikoo Place. I drive and park at Taikoo Place and driving time is about 25-30 minutes in the morning. My wife works in Central. The transportation is not such a big issue, especially if you drive. Even if you don't, there are minibuses, but make sure that you find a place closer to the main road. Also, they can get quite full at peak hours, so that is one consideration.

In terms of location, Silverstand is the closest landing point in Clearwater Bay, but the prices reflect the demand there. One consideration is the security of the place. Broadly speaking, you can choose a village house, which tend to be more remote, quieter and lower cost. However, in villages, you can potentially have issues with security, wildlife as well as dealing with the village "politics".

The alternative is a villa development, where several houses were built by the developer and share common security and facilities. Personally, we felt safer in this type of development and there are also facilities (pool, etc.). But these tend to cost more.

cd has provided lots of good information. Schools are not as plentiful as if you were living in mid-levels, but they are certainly there. One issue we found is summer activities - there is not much in Sai Kung.

what sort of summer activities, Sai Kung has a swimming pool, tennis courts, the park has facilities for football, basketball, rollerskating and cycling. You can do kayaking at the beach. Walking in the country park. Theres lots of activities at that recreation centre near Sai Kung country park, plus a couple of government water sports places, but you do have to book very early for places on these courses. Sai Kung also has football lessons, ballet etc, art lessons.
